I believe that John Locke had the greatest impact in modern day because he believed that all people had equality and the same rights. He understood that governments were created to protect the rights of the people. John Locke believed that unfair governments that don't have a common interest of protecting and seeking people's rights should be overthrown. I believe without John Locke we wouldn't have a fair and just government system. This is a picture of him.

The Idea that I think had the greatest impact was Thomas Hobbes, I think his idea of not thinking all people are nice and actually labeling humans in general as selfish really kept some people protected. And the social contract which explains to give up some of our rights to do physical harm or violence, and entrust some power to higher rulers like a monarch that we can even see today with our U.S Government. In this picture is Thomas Hobbes's Portrait

I belive Mary Astell made a big impact because she made a argument that men and women in a relationship should be equal. She made a book adressing the lack of educational opportunities for women. she used "all men are born equal" to go against them to show that women were being treated less then men. This is important because now women are recognized for more things. This is a picture of her and what she stands for.

I believe John Locke made the biggest impact He is one of the main reasons we are able to vote it is because of him and his idea of how the government is to protect the rights of citizens. Locke believed the government should answer to the people. I believe without him we would not have the same government system we have today nor would we have the same core beliefs of all humans having the same unalienable rights. Another major idea of his is that he believed that the government is there in order to protect the right of the citizens and how all governments are based off a social contract. That is why I believe he made the most important contributions with his ideas and beliefs on government which I have previously stated. This is a picture of him in a portrait and it looks like he is thinking.

I think that Cesare Bonesana Beccaria has had one of the biggest impacts on society today because he was one of the first to state that immoral punishments were wrong and not just. From his arguments he then went on to telling the court that punishments for crimes should be responsible and not based upon feeling. He also said that, punishment of the right standard would prevent a person from doing the same crime again which would lead to less crime. This has majorly impacted the court system today in America because almost all cases are based upon facts and evidence. His impact has lead to many states in the US banning the death penalty and other harsh punishments. If a crime that is not forgivable then the punishment should match the crime. Life is scared and it should not be taken away. In the picture people are protesting all lives are scared and no ones above the law and God.

Jean Jacques Rousseau contributed a lot to our society today. The big way that he contributed to society was his views and noble titles and social status. He believed that people should earn their way to a high social standing and not just be given a high title because of their family name. He believed that the way that people were given their social status was corrupting people natural goodness and ruining society. This is very important because today in our society we must work very hard to earn out social standing and are not just given a high standing because of the family we are born into. This is a portrait of Jean Jacques Rousseau.

Cesare Bonesana Beccaria Had the biggest impact because of how he felt about cruel punishments. He believed that laws were meant to preserve social order. He also wanted the level of the punishment to rely on the level of the crime. this was a way better way of finding punishments so not such high measures were reached. These beliefs are still used today and influenced many different governments. And this is a picture of him reading a book.

John Locke made important contributions to the way government and society works. John Locke believed that citizens were have important rights from the time they were born. Some of these rights included the right to live with freedom and being equal in society. It emphasizes that a government shouldn't be used to limit or force people on what to do with an authority figure above the law, but rather as a way to protect the rights of citizens. His contributions are important because it gives liberty to citizens, allowing them to have opinions, make decisions, and be independent and protected under the law. I put a picture of the Declaration of independence because his contributions heavily influenced the Declaration of Independence, and influenced the way the US' government works and the rights citizens have.

I think this because he argued that people should follow their own natural reasoning instead of believing what others tell them. Our reason teaches us that this sort of discrimination cannot exist” This is a great example of the greatest impact that he had.

I think Cesare Beccaria had the greatest impact. He argued that basically for criminal justice to be more effective the punishment should depend on its necessity rather that severity. Beccaria did not support torture or cruel punishments. This was an important contribution because his ideas influenced many governments, including the US, to reform criminal justice laws. Beccaria's argument significantly shifted the perspectives of lawmakers. He influenced multiple state governments to abolish the death penalty and decrease the amount of acts of cruelty and torture punishments. This picture represents a common used form of torture punishment. It's called an upright jerker and was used to break the neck of the condemned. This is significant to Cesare Beccaria because he is one of the reasons this type of cruelty has and continues to fade in history.

I think Mare Wollstonecraft had the greatest impact. She argued that women and men both should enjoy the same education opportunities. Mary Wollstonecraft only received little formal schooling over the unfairness that women received a lack of education. She published an essay called A Vindication of the Rights of Women that made a big impact on women education. This is a picture of Mary Wollstonecraft

I believe John Locke had the greatest impact on the people and also in current times, or modern day. John Locke had believed in equality and equal rights and that everyone had the same rights as another did. He believed that citizens should have the right to overthrow a government that fails to have everyone have the same rights or liberty and property. John Locke created a huge impact on our current government because we have the right to overthrow a government. And it also helped because he was against absolutism and monarchies which would cause one person to rule.

I believe that Mary Astell had one of the biggest impacts on today’s society. In 1694 she published A Serious Proposal to the Ladies speaking on the rights deprived from females. Mary spoke about the lack of educational opportunities for women using the Enlightenment arguments to talk about the inequality of the relationship between men and women. She said “If absolute sovereignty be not necessary in a state, how comes it to be so in a family?...If all men are born free, how is it that all women are born slaves?” This is important because a woman is no less of a human than men in fact women male men exist therefore how can we have human rights if women are viewed as less than that. Women should have the same educational opportunities as men.
