I spent some time reviewing the counseling program a Frank Seale Middle School, particularly relative to informed consent. I did not find a direct campus policy for informed consent, but the Midlothian ISD's Guidance and Counseling Department notes that they follow The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. Upon reviewing the Texas model, it notes that administrators should approve consent forms drafted by the school counselor and parents are to give consent to group participation.

Sec. 33.004 of the Texas Education Code indicates:
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT. (a) Each school shall obtain, and keep as part of the student's permanent record, written
consent of the parent or legal guardian as required under Section 33.003. The consent form shall include specific information on the content of the program and the types of activities in which the student will be involved.

Sec. 33.003. PARENTAL CONSENT. The board of trustees of each school district shall adopt guidelines to ensure that written consent is obtained from the parent, legal guardian,
or person entitled to enroll the student under Section 25.001(j) for the student to participate in those activities for which the district requires parental consent.

We would have a group discussion around what each suggested rule/guideline looks and/or sounds like. We will use this time to discuss confidentiality and consequences for breaking confidentiality. Some guidelines around communication might be determined as a group. Expectations around confidentiality, timeliness, and participation would be set by me.

I would primarily use the participative leadership style. During the first session, I might use more of an authoritarian leadership style. I think over all the participative leadership style would work better with middle schoolers to build trust, and improve engagement/active participation. I want the students to feel empowered and committed to the goals of the group (Cherry, 2023).
