Definition:
A marked change in form, nature, or appearance, a sudden dramatic change of scenery on stage, or a metamorphosis during the life cycle of an animal.

Transformation doesn't equal to "change":
The word "change" requires becoming familiar with the current situation and working to make things better, faster, cheaper, or some other “er” word. We usually use "change" when our future is really a reconditioned or improved version of the past. However, "transformation" doesn’t describe the future by referencing the past, which it births a future that is entirely new. It is almost always large and significant.
Also, change is what happens to us by force or by circumstances or with a desperate effort by one person or a group of people. Transformation, on the other hand, is by passion or with a willing attitude or willful act with self-interest, to work on ourselves to become what we have to become progressively.

References:
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/transformation
https://www.quora.com/Whats-the-difference-between-change-and-transformation
http://www.theprimes.com/change-vs-transformation

->Definition
In an organizational context, a process of profound and radical change that orients an organization in a new direction and takes it to an entirely different level of effectiveness. Unlike 'turnaround' (which implies incremental progress on the same plane) transformation implies a basic change of character and little or no resemblance with the past configuration or structure.

Transformation does not equal to "change" as “Transformation” is much more unpredictable, iterative, and experimental. It entails much higher risk. And, even if some specific initiatives within the transformation portfolio are executed successfully, the overall transformation could still fail – How an organisation chooses to approach Transformation will most likely determine whether or not they will succeed.

->Reference
http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/transformation.html
https://www.copenhagenstrategy.com/2017/01/16/change-not-transformation/

Definition of transformation:
a. The act or an instance of transforming

b. The state of being transformed

2. A marked change, as in appearance or character, usually for the better

"Change" fixes the past. "Transformation" creates the future. In "change" mode, the desire to improve the past directs what we do. The past sets boundaries and constrains possibilities. "Change" makes the system better. In "transformation" mode, the future directs your actions and only the limits of imagination and courage constrain possibilities. "Transformation" causes new systems to emerge.

"Change" can be small and incremental, or it can be large and complex. But it is something that needs to be constantly monitored and maintained. "Transformation" is almost always large and significant. "Transformation" is an internal fundamental change in your beliefs of why you perform certain actions. Transformation does not require any external influence to maintain, and because of its fundamental nature, transformation is more likely permanent.

"Change" may not last forever as it keeps evolving or devolving, whereas "transformation" is a dimensional shift, and once we are transformed there is no question of going back but being a transformed person.

Change is only temporary.

Transformation is an assertion that our actions today create our future tomorrow. The future can be described and realized when you free yourself from constraints of the past.
However, transformation does not equal to change. Change is volatile, reversible, and could be a wrong decision.
