Hi! I am Rwito, I am working on my thesis around visualizing transition patterns in multi-attribute dataset in educational context.
I would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions and queries regarding iSAT. Just add a note on this padlet :) Thanks!

At my university we are always struggling to now the relationship between the courses bachelor students take and the chance they have to end up in our masters program. This is a great way of visualizing this relationship.

Eye tracking might be a useful tool for some evaluation on how people process this sort of diagram. For example, do they attend more to transitions in one form of diagram than another? It might be useful to ask users for free form summaries of various graphs to see what they focus on (do they focus more on migrations between right and wrong in a particular format, etc.). Also accuracy in answering questions about the various forms.

I think it can be useful to give them tasks what they should solve with the tool and to combine this with the evaluation methods observation and thinking aloud. This allows to observe how they use the tool and also to find out if the generate insights during the interact with this tool. Furthermore interviews can be helpful to identify if they have improvement suggestions.

As discussed in the session I would suggest to do interviews with stakeholders. In addition, it would be interesting to observe how stakeholders work with the system and what kind of results or insights they could get with the system. It would be interesting to know whether the stakeholders can get insights which they would not get with traditional methods or whether they interact with the data more. I agree with the suggestion made in the session that it should be clarified what the goal of the evaluation is (usability or utility oriented).

A useful way to evaluate the effectiveness of the representations/diagrams would be to compare (1) text only explanations, (2) text with 'usual' diagrams (like graphs or tables) explanations, and (3) text with new diagrams explanations.

Great new aid for information display and information understanding.

The presented diagram type and the associated tool seem to be very nice and useful.

Very interesting visualization. Can certainly see the value.

It was a very interesting approach and I think it is also from interest for other domains/application areas (e.g., user studies to analyse pre- and post-tests)

The presenter described a possibility to analyze data for learning analytics. The solution which was presented looks very interesting and advantageous. The presenter argued convincingly what kind of added value the system could provide to teachers and other stakeholders in the educational sector. The presenter also did a live demonstration of how the system worked.

This research has definite useful applications, particularly in the educational field (and maybe other social sciences). Well done, Rwitajit!
