How to measure the quality of sports providers.

Club Mark
Club mark is Sport England's national accreditation scheme for high quality community sports clubs and stands for higher standards of welfare, equity, coaching and management.

They aim to assist in its drive to increase levels of participation in sport. They also empower parent(s)/carer(s) when choosing a club for their children. Another thing they aim to so is enable adults to choose the right kind of club to join. They provide a focus around which all organisations involved in sport can come together to support good practice and safeguarding in sports clubs.

They measure quality by doing internal screening at clubs and organisations. They do this as it is a cheap yet effective way of determining whether or not they are performing well.

They measure the quality of sports development providers by screening the progress that players receive from coaches and ensuring they are getting the best out of the players and participants. They also measure quality by having coaches watch other coaches when they are performing sessions and ensuring they are performing correctly.

Investors In People
Investors In People is a standard for people management, offering accreditation to organisations that adhere to the Investors in People Standard.

The Investors in People Standard is aimed to test organisations by using a rigorous assessment methodology and a framework which reflects the latest workplace trends, essential skills and effective structures required to outperform in any industry.

The Investors in People framework provides 27 scales for comparison. Using online assessment data, they are able to show you how you compare year on year, to ensure you have a clear benchmark for performance.

Evaluation of organisations ways of measuring quality.

Club Mark - Strengths
Club marks strengths are that they are a internal screening organisation which means they are a cheap way to gain accreditation and are an effective way of determining whether or not sport clubs are performing well.

Another strength they have is that they provide a focus which all organisations can come together to support good practice and safeguarding in sports clubs.

Another thing that is a strength of club mark is that they measure the quality of coaching by having coaches assess coaches by watching each other perform sessions and ensuring they are performing correctly.

Club Mark - Weaknesses
The weaknesses of club mark are that you need to fill in a lot of paperwork and therefore have plenty of spare time to set aside to fill it all in. Another weakness is is that you need to have a very extensive knowledge of the sports you are evaluating for.

Another weakness is that it is a voluntary thing and needs dedicated volunteers in order to run correctly.

Another thing that is a weakness of the club mark is that because not all governing bodies are recognised minority sports may not be able to use the club mark.

Investors In People - Strengths
Investors in People accreditation is achieved through a rigorous and objective assessment to determine performance against the Standard for people management.

Research shows that investors in people accredited organisations are generally:

more profitable

more sustainable

more optimistic about the future

Investors In People - Weaknesses
One weakness of investors in people is that they are a national framework which in turn could cause controversy between businesses which could cause internal problems.

Another weakness of investors in people is that because it is important to gain this and retain this accreditation it causes stress upon staff meaning they may perform worse than usual because of nerves.

Descriptions of sports development initiatives.

Motivation
Motivation is a sports development initiative designed to provide millions of disabled people with wheelchairs so they can leave their homes, go to school, find employment or join in sporting activities.

People with disabilities are a target group because they are less represented in sporting activities and in sports industry. This is because there isn’t as much promotion of disability sports compared to non-disability sports even with the use of the Paralympics. This would lead to them being a target group for barriers to participation

This Girl Can
This girl can is a nationwide campaign to get women and girls into sport regardless of ability, size and shape. They aim to remove fear of judgment in female sports by allowing for relevant motivations, barriers and triggers to get more women active.

Women and girls are a target group because they are less represented in sporting activities and in the sports industry. There is less sports events that are widely considered female lead compared to male lead. This would lead to them being a target group for barriers to participation

Analysis of sports development initiatives.

Motivation - Strengths
Motivations strength is that it provides a wheelchair for a disabled person who can’t leave their homes, go to school or find employment. Meaning many feel isolated from their friends and family but this is prevented by giving affordable wheelchairs to people.

Another strength they have is that 100% of profits go back into the company meaning that it is affordable to make new chairs and can provide for people who cant afford them.

Motivation - Weaknesses
A weakness that is seen in motivation is that it can take a while to produce a wheelchair for someone as they are all custom made by professionals meaning that they need to be exact which extends the production time.

This Girl Can - Strengths
This girl cans strength is that is has an empowering message to females and can be seen to increase activity between different types of female.

They also have a strong financial base of the national lottery which means they can usually always provide enough funds to give a substantial improvement upon activities and equipment.

This Girl Can - Weaknesses
This girl cans weaknesses are that they dont have many brand ambassadors or champions which means they may not seem as reputable as other organisations which could reduce attendees and therefore effectiveness.

Another weakness they have is that they arent very informative meaning not many people know about them, this is detrimental as they aim to target as many females as possible and if they cant appeal to them not many people would join.
