"You are Passive Voice Detectives! Your mission is to find all the sentences in this text that are written in the passive voice."

"Discuss each sentence in your group and decide if it's active or passive. If you think it's passive, explain why you think so."

"Rewrite each passive sentence you find into the active voice."

"Be prepared to share your findings with the class."

The Mysterious Package

The old post office was quiet. Dust motes danced in the single ray of sunlight that entered through the grimy window. A small, brown package sat on the counter. It had been delivered that morning, but no one had claimed it yet. The package was wrapped in plain paper and tied with thin string. No name or address was written on it, only a single, strange symbol.

The postmaster, Mr. Bumble, looked at the package with curiosity. He had been told by his supervisor to keep it safe. He picked it up carefully. It felt light, almost empty. A faint rattling sound could be heard when it was shaken. Mr. Bumble frowned. He wondered what secrets were contained within. He hoped the mystery would be solved soon. Perhaps, he thought, the owner would be found before closing time. The package was placed back on the counter, and Mr. Bumble continued with his work, his mind still occupied by the mysterious object.
