Q1: Has Airbnb created new demand or is it relocating preexisting demand?

Q2: If so, from whom are they displacing market share?

Approach: Compare statistics of hotels & Airbnb in a certain area to quantitative data of guests of both parties over a predetermined timeframe.

Context: Seeing that little niche research on this particular topic is done in the Netherlands, the findings will assumingly benefit the hotel operators of the to be determined area. Hopefully, clarification will be provided as to the magnitude of the threat Airbnb poses.

Feasibility: The above describes what interests me most. However, I expect that data collection could be difficult in some of the facets. In the near future I will discuss this with dr. Fricke and adapt where necessary.

Intervention: As the proposed research answers a need for clarification by the industry, a advisory report appears to be most appropriate. Following the conclusion of the research, suggested instruction can be given to the industry.

Excluded: This research will exclude the legality debate surrounding Airbnb, all geographic locations other than the determined, all guests who have not been a hotel guest before using Airbnb.

In this thesis there is intention to create a opportunity for hotels to create a business models which involves kids, as well as the social pedagogy view which could benefit the parents. First of all it can be assumed that when the kids are happy, the parents will be happy and thus give a hotel a satisfactory rating as well. It also is said by the study of J Coldron and P Boulton ( )that the happiness of the children is one of the crucial considerations whilst selecting a school. It could then be assumed that this would also influence the considerations when parents are selecting hotels. In 1962 the first paper was published by McNeal about the consumer behaviour of children. This can potentially be a great gateway to create enthusiasm amongst kids about staying in a hotel. 

Secondly, the social study of pedagogy has become a bigger part of the academic world in the past few years. Social pedagogy believes that people can decisively influence different kinds of social circumstances through education(. (concept social work) The role of the hotel will not include the exact education of the child. As said in Jackson (2006) the role of a social pedagogue would relate to the body, mind, feelings, spirit, creativity and the relationship to others of a child. The social pedagogues would share aspects of a child’s daily life. 

The idea of this study is to see how costumer satisfaction can be influenced through this new concept. Costumer satisfaction can be measured through direct and in-direct methods, and it can be argued that the manner of costumer satisfaction could potentially determine whether or not a company is successful. (operations management) In turn this concept might also bring a competitive advantage to a hotel.
