Roosevelt was the newly elected president in the election of 1932, easily taking the victory over the prior president trying to become re-elected, Herbert Hoover, who had a popular vote of 39.7% compared to Roosevelt's 57.4%. The reason that he was so unpopular toward the middle to the end of his presidency is because of his stubbornness in not trying to make big changes in America, and all of his small tariffs and acts that failed miserably, such as the Agricultural Marketing Act. This election was needed to prove that America could emerge from the Great Depression and continue to be the great country that it could be. America was in a crisis, and they needed something fast to get them out of it.
