Calvinism was a theological belief among Puritans. It held the belief of total depravity, predestination, limited atonement, and grace. Total depravity claimed that all humans are sinners no matter what they do. Predestination is the belief that all humans had already been chosen for either hell of heaven. Limited atonement means that Christ only died for those chosen for heaven. Grace is the gift of salvation. This belief specifically had those who were gifted go through an emotional experience relating to god. There weren't many opportunities for salvation in Calvinism.

The Puritans were a religious European group that wanted to purify the church. Puritans saw the Catholic religion as wrong and wanted to remove it completely. At one point, they were persecuted for their religion. Forced to become refugees, Puritans settled in new lands to establish their own nation. There they followed a theocracy, a government ran by religion. They hoped to live in a Utopia with the government that they established themselves.

Far into the future, a witch hunt in communist was done. People in the everyday society would be accused of being a communist in America. If a person had been suspected of being a communist, their life would be made much more difficult whether or not they were a communist. One of the accused was Arthur Miller. Miller never gave in to accusation of being a communist. Instead, he studied the Salem Witch Hunt and put his new information to work. He made a play called The Crucible. It was about the hysteria during the hunt for witches in the 1690s. Thought it was poorly received at the time of creation, it is now a well acclaimed play.

Before the witch trials, Puritans had already been dealing with stressful situations such as the attacks by Indians and Congregational feuds. Along with these reasons, they believed that Satan was responsible for anything bad. Bored teenagers were especially an issue due to taking interest in foreign beliefs such as witchcraft. They would eventually become loud voices for witch accusations. Finally, feuds of property only encouraged accusations to benefit the accusers

The trials were investigations done to find witches hidden among the common people. Betty Parris, Ann Putman, Mercy Lewis, and Mary Walcott were loud voices for the accusations. They would accuse people of being witches and use acts to prove that the accused was guilty. One method used to find a witch was stripping the accused completely and looking for a third nipple. If they had a third nipple, they would be executed. Other times, investigator would force the accused to admit to being a witch. By 1692, 200 people were jailed. These Salem Witch Trials completely failed in finding the innocent and the guilty.
