I love being a Girl Scout. For almost a decade of service, I have always enjoyed engaging in activities that I know help me improve and better understand my skills. As the president of our campus Girl Scouting, I’ve been the driving force behind the activities we organize, planning and setting events such as Girl Scout Week and campings. I’ve gained this knowledge from attending various training sessions, which have given me more ideas for engaging activities. Based on their feedback, they love the activities, and their responses truly melt my heart."

Galle Face Green is one of the beautiful places in Colombo. The park is set in the city but it runs along the Indian Ocean so you get amazing views of sea especially at sunset. Locals and tourist simply love to sit here saunter around or fly kites, when then munch and drink refreshments from stalls that surround this park. Add the ocean breeze, wide open green space, and the soul of people walking around… This is a very special place in the middle of the city.

My association Fanilon'i Madagasikara is always there to help me to be a good leader with a lot of opportunities as a girl🍀🕊️.

This experience was transformational for me because it was the first time I felt trusted and empowered as a young person to make decisions that impacted not only myself but also my fellow Guides. I was tasked with organizing and coordinating activities for both my patrol and the entire unit. It was then that I realized the value of my own judgment, regardless of my age. This trust set a strong foundation for my decision making process and allowed me to grow in confidence, knowing that the choices I made no matter how small or large could have a meaningful impact.

This early leadership experience propelled me forward. Throughout high school, I continued to serve as a patrol leader, and after school, I took on more significant leadership roles. I eventually earned a seat at the National Council, where I contributed to decisions affecting the entire movement in my country. The empowerment I experienced as a young Guide has shaped my approach to leadership to this day. It instilled in me the belief that young people are capable decision makers, and when given the chance, we can lead with insight and creativity.

I strongly believe that girls and young women have the power to make the world a better place because we bring a unique perspective that is deeply rooted in empathy, resilience, and lived experiences. For far too long, women and young people have been at the receiving end of many of the negative consequences of decisions made in our world, decisions that often do not account for our needs or voices.

However, when girls and young women are in positions of leadership, they tend to lead with empathy, inclusivity, and consideration for everyone. Our experiences with inequality and injustice have given us the ability to see the world through a lens that values fairness and collective well-being. We are not only driven by personal ambition but also by a deep sense of responsibility to ensure that our decisions benefit the greater good.

I’ve witnessed first hand how young women, when given the opportunity to lead, are thoughtful and strategic in their decision-making. We understand the importance of collaboration, and we know that every choice we make can create a ripple effect that impacts others. If more girls and young women were in leadership roles, I truly believe we would see more equitable and compassionate solutions to global challenges, from environmental issues to social justice. Our empathy, combined with our courage to make tough decisions, positions us as powerful agents of positive change, and I am inspired every day by the potential we have to shape a better future for all.

1.One time in Girl Guides or Girl Scouts where I felt empowered as a decision-maker was when I was leading a group project to create a community service plan. Our task was to identify a local need and organize a way to address it. . This experience taught me about collaboration, leadership, and the importance of making thoughtful decisions.

I enjoy taking the lead in Girl Guides because I can improve my leadership skills.

I believe that girls and young women can make better place because girls also can lead the society.

Through various projects,👌 I developed a passion for research, learning to explore and innovate. 🫶🫶I strongly believe that girls 👧 and women 👩🏻‍🦰 can make the world a better place with a determination and hard work which are keys to overcoming obstacles in our everyday life, so let’s support them💗💗

On International Day of the Girl, I celebrate the power and potential of girls everywhere. For me, being part of Girl Guiding has been a huge part of my journey toward feeling empowered.

As an introvert, I never thought I’d see myself as a leader. But guiding became my home, a place where I learned how to make decisions and lead with confidence. I’ve completed Rangers, and now I’m excited to move forward into adult leading. It’s through guiding that I discovered my leadership potential and gained the courage to take on new challenges.

Guiding has also helped me in school and in life. The opportunities and lessons I’ve had through guiding have made a big difference, giving me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. I’ve learned to trust myself and my decisions, knowing that I’m capable of achieving so much more than I thought.

Today, on International Day of the Girl, I’m reminded of how important it is for girls to have spaces where they can grow, lead, and feel supported. Girl Guiding has empowered me, and I’m excited to keep growing as a leader.

As I reflect on my journey as a Girl Guide, it feels surreal to be celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child in my late 30s. When I first joined the movement, I didn’t fully grasp its significance, but now, I see how profoundly transformative and essential the Girl Guides has been—not only for me but for countless girls across the country. Through this experience, I’ve cultivated leadership skills, resilience, a sense of community, independence, and courage. I’ve formed friendships grounded in trust and collaboration, and every day I witness the strength of sisterhood.

The Girl Guides movement offers something invaluable: hope, empowerment, and a sense of belonging. It provides a safe space for girls to grow, explore, and unlock their potential—something I’ve come to appreciate even more as an adult. These are the same values I now see being passed on to a new generation of young leaders, filling me with immense pride.

One of the most impactful aspects of the Girl Guides is how it equips girls with the tools they need to navigate a complex world. It helps them grow into confident women capable of making informed decisions. In a society where girls are often marginalized, this is revolutionary. When I see young girls proudly wearing their uniforms and badges today, I see future leaders, changemakers, and innovators.

The movement continues to inspire me. The challenges girls face in Lesotho today—like technology, climate change, and shifting societal norms—may look different, but at their core, the same needs persist. Girls still require safe spaces where they can build confidence, learn life skills, and discover their worth.

This is why the International Day of the Girl Child is so important. It serves as a reminder that our work is far from over, and it calls us to action to ensure that every girl has the opportunity to thrive. On this day, I am reminded of the strength of the Girl Guides movement and the power of a girl who knows her worth. The Girl Guides remains a beacon of hope and empowerment for girls across Lesotho, and I am grateful to be part of this transformative journey—both for myself and for the generations of girls to come.

Let’s continue to invest in our girls, provide them with platforms to shine, and celebrate their potential every day. They are our future, and with the right support, they will shape a brighter, more equitable tomorrow.

1. Actions we were told we cannot do becuase we are girls: "playing cricket, rugby, soccer and basketball, be strong, sit like or with boys, write about a certain topic, play video games or be a leader"

2. What we believe girls can do to create a better world: "keep our Earth clean by creating a sustainable environment, demand safe clean toilets for girls at school, give girls the platform to speak out and encourage their confidence, advocate for equal and fair payment in the work place, speak up when knowing something is wrong, advocate for equal rights to boys, more women presidents!"

3. Pledges we as girls and Girl Guides personally made: "stand up to bully at school and report it to the principal, make eco bricks at home to reduce non bio degradable waster on landfills, donate feminine health products to Girl and Women charities, talk to our school principals about Girl cricket, rugby, soccer, basketball teams, carry extra menstrual hygiene products for a friend in need to avoid her embarrassment and contribute to school drives for donations for those in need"

Girl guide leader, 41 years

Girlguiding is so rewarding in many ways. Making new friends from all over, watching and helping the girls learn as they grow into beautiful strong women, and having so much fun.

I love being a leader, starting up the units 3 years ago was a challenge in our small village but it was the best decision ever.

We love helping the community, camping, getting out and about and so much more.

I love our BIG Girlguiding Family....

Sparrow, Robin, Snowy Owl, Raven, Fox, Dolphin, Bunny, Panda, Otter & all our girls xx

The adventures will never end 😁

I enjoy taking the lead in Girl Guides because it allows me to inspire others and foster teamwork. It’s rewarding to see how our collective efforts can bring about positive change, and I love mentoring younger members to help them find their own voices.

I believe girls and young women can create a better world because we bring unique perspectives and experiences to the table. When empowered, we advocate for important issues, challenge norms, and drive innovation. By supporting each other, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate future.

This is my first time joining a girls' summit and I totally love it!! the shirt is so cute like it's purple which is my fav colour. Not only that, I also get to meet many people from different states which is a total new experience. Not only that, I also get too learn other states slangs and cultures when we are doing the cultural night. MY MANITO GAVE ME A PENGUIN PLUSHIE WHICH JS SO CUTE!!! If I was given a chance to go to girls' summit again, I would totally go for it again!

Once I was older, I officially joined girl guides when I was 9, and continued to pursue my Queens Guide award through an incredible journey of many, many incredible experiences, loads of friends, and lots of fun.

One of the best experiences I've had in guiding was when I attended the 25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 held in South Korea. It was one of the first collaboration that PPPM had with the Malaysian Scouts. Being involved in both scouting and guiding, I was overjoyed at the chance to be participating in this international jamboree.

We were there for 14 days, and I managed to create amazing memories with my friends from around the world. Bonding with other scouts and guides across the world, it opened my eyes to the different issues and situations of others in other parts of the world. I learned to be grateful for all that I had in my country, as there were people who didnt even have the bare minimum.

As youth representatives, we gathered and spread awareness about SDG goals, relating gender equality, clean environments and renewable energy to everyone. Korea was definitely a life-changing moment for me.

Although we went through a heatwave and typhoon while we were there, we were far from unlucky. Ironically, this was one of the main reasons on why I would never forget this particular camp experience. We learnt to adapt to new environments and plan, think and execute our plans quickly in order to be safe.

As always, we also managed to learn a lot about the different cultures and traditions in other countries, namely Japan, Korea itself, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sweden, China, Germany, Brazil, Mexico and many more.

After enjoying myself thoroughly in Korea, I got the motivation to participate in more international camps to gain new knowledge, experiences and lifelong friends bonded through guiding.

As a sociologist, the most interesting aspect of Guiding is the cultural exchange opportunities it provides. For the past 5 years, I have proudly served as a Tide Turner Champion, continually striving to make a positive impact. Additionally, I have worked on the "Life Skills-Based Education" method through Girl Guiding, which has been a rewarding experience.

I have been a change maker by giving confidence to girls under the project of Free Being me.

Other than that i am an entrepreneur running my small business by using my art skills.

Throughout my involvement, I have been an active member of the organization, and I have taken on the role of Unit Leader in various camps. I am also proficient in gadget making, which has been a valuable skill in guiding.

I felt empowered as a decision maker during my time in girl guides when we had the privilege to plan and execute a service of our liking. We had the responsibility to choose the location, audience, activity, time and more of the executed service. This experience was empowering because as Girl Guides we are always given service to complete and rarely given the opportunity to plan a service as a collaborative. This was unique and allowed us to express our opinions and passions.

I enjoy taking the lead during Girl Guide activities because it allows me to understand different perspectives from others. It gives me the opportunity to utiles my collaboration skills and find a common ground between all ideas and opinions.

Youngster are creative and imaginative, they have the ability to find unique and mind blowing solutions for the most difficult challenges. With skills of critical thinking, Girl Guides have the ability to balance creative and logic, making them the perfect candidate to make the world a better place.

Cuando nuestras pequeñas son Guías, se nota, sigamos siendo las facilitadoras de este bello e increíble movimiento.

Happy Guiding !

One moment that stands out was when I was leading a community service project with my patrol. We decided to organize a drive to collect supplies for a local shelter. It was the first time I was in charge of planning everything—from organizing logistics to rallying my patrol and promoting the event. It felt empowering to know that my ideas and decisions directly impacted the project's success and made a difference in our community.

As a patrol, we enjoy taking the lead because it gives us the chance to learn and grow while making a positive impact. Girl Guiding allows us to explore new challenges, take initiative, and develop our confidence as leaders. We believe that girls and young women can make the world a better place because we bring fresh perspectives, empathy, and determination to solve problems. Through Girl Guiding, we’ve seen how small actions can make a big difference, inspiring us to continue making positive changes in our community and beyond.

Each year, the conference focuses on a specific aspect of women's contributions. This year’s edition, the sixth, centered on the role we play as citizens.
