I feel I learnt the most in year 9 with a good teacher, but he left the school. In year 10 there was little learning and everything got rapidly taught within the final last term, and then he wasn’t even there for the last 3 weeks leading up to exams. There was no support in this and it’s really annoying knowing that other languages would have had support. Moreover there was no practise material that we were given for the Maori exam, so it was really hard to achieve a good mark. This year when Papali actually put negative sentences It felt good because it actually seemed we would learn this year, but then she left and didn’t leave any work for us to do. We are meant to do 2 internals in term 1, but haven’t learnt anything to even pass one. It’s pretty annoying when I was initially going to do PE as a subject but ended up not doing it for Maori. For some people they really need the Te Reo Maori L1 credits in order to pass NCEA L1. I know that there are only 65 odd credits for my other 3 subjects, so I need these credits from Maori in order to be successfully. We also need consistency, as us Boys who’ve taken it from Y9 - 11 (Lachie, Hamish) have gone through about 5 Maori teachers in 3 years. I really love the subject and the language, but it doesn’t help us or the college not having a Maori teacher. Even if she wasn’t here, but if she set some work it would’ve been better, but now we are probably behind 2 internals, so it may be unlikely that we can catch up, and in a positive way. As  someone who really likes Maori, it isn’t doing any favours for me in wanting to continue the favour. I think consistency for us is key, because this class is really just a study period for us, to do other work. It started off really well, and gave me some hope that this year would be really good. We didn't even get any work to help us with learning te reo while Whaea was away. I do like being able to catch upon other work in this class, but would still prefer to be learning te reo.
