I do not want to be on my death bed and looking back at my life thinking Wow, I could have lived my life so much better if I wasn't so hostile because I spent so much time hating on things when I could have been appreciating it or thinking in a more positive way. Thats how I want my life to be. I want to live a happy and fulfilling life but in order to do that you can't hate and focus on the negative side of things. Where Is The Love? by the Black Eyed Peas shows the message well to spread love and kindness because it can only cause others and yourself happiness but hating can not. For example, one part of the song reads, "Whatever happened to the fairness and equality Instead in spreading love we're spreading animosity Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity" (Black Eyed peas). In order to live happily and lovingly its important to understand why people act differently and negatively. Maybe they are going through a part of their life where they are facing challenging problems and its hard for them to be positive and spread love when everything around is showing them otherwise. If others can understand that and show those people going through a hard time they are not alone than they will not feel as negative and will feel more connected and together. To continue some problems people face are caused by hate, anger, and revenge of others so by thinking in a loving way those problems won't even start. The song shows, "And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah Madness is what you demonstrate And that's exactly how anger works and operates Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight" (Black Eyed Peas). They are saying that hate causes problems and madness so by loving those problems will go away and the world will be a better place. When you start to experience problems caused by hate, anger, revenge it causes you to do the same ending up in a chain reaction spreading to everyone. By loving, appreciating, and staying positive those problems aren't caused and people can live better and happier lives which is how I want to live. My strength is that I think very realistically to prepare myself for negative outcomes so it doesn't hit me as hard. Many people see it as thinking negatively just because its not the most optimistic way to think which is not true, I am always hoping for the best but prepare for the worst. By preparing for the worst, you come off as more calm because in your head you know what happened could have been much worse which. So by being more clam makes other more calm.

To be great is to be misunderstood

When The Beatles were first starting out their career they looked for a chance to make fame with Decca Records. After auditioning for them on New Years Day 1962, Dick Rowe, the head of Decca Records misunderstood their music and told them "Guitar groups are on their way out..." (Rowe). However this did not stop them and soon made history. This group over came obstacles and showed self reliance by not giving up and believing in themselves. For example, in the winter going into spring of 1963 the Beatles produced recordings, during this time, "fascination with the Beatles—at first confined to young British fans of popular music—breached the normal barriers of taste, class, and age, transforming their recordings and live performances into matters of widespread public comment" (Miller). Even though the Beatles were first seen as different and not typical music and style during that era in society they came out on top. The fab Four were not your typical boy band through their taste, class age, what they wore, etc. but that didn't stop them, they believed in themselves that they were great and fabulous musicians. The group loved the music they made and what they were doing which is more important than doing it just to earn money already showing their success even if others didn't approve like Rowe. To continue, the British Prime Minister, Harold Wilson recommended the Beatles to be made members of the British Empire in 1965. This was protested by past recipients and military veterans because it was against what they viewed as the royal order's dignity being decreased (Miller). Although some people underestimated the Beatles like the recipients and veterans causing them to think the Beatles deserved their praise they were still successful in their own eyes and others without the approval of others. They also showed a strong embodiment of Emersons belief through not giving up despite others opinions and where proud of themselves either way. Since many people didn't understand why they were great it lead them to be even more accepting and confident in themselves since other weren't accepting.

Transcendental Song Lyrics

The song Cheap Thrills by Sia portrays the trait of simplicity through explaining you don't need money to have a good time. Even though many people believe you need to have money in order to have a good time, the song is explaining you can be happy and live a good life without it. The artist shows this message through repeating the phrase I ain't got cash but I got you and and I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight showing how people can live a good life without things and money. Similarly to Walden by Henry Thoreau it also shows the message of simplicity that you should live freely not worry about having money because it won't matter in the end. Both the song and text show the message that you don't need materialistic things to live freely and because you don't need those things you shouldn't live to have them but instead live for the experience. In the piece Thoreau brings up the topic why people even need to feel successful through having money but you can also show success by being happy without money which Sia proves too in her song.
The song Born This Way by Lady Gaga can show the transcendental idea of self reliance by proving you can be you can be happy with who you are and have confidence in yourself no matter what. The song explains that everyone is different in their own way and where born for a reason so you should be confident that you are good and strong enough. The singer portrays this message by in her song saying that you should love and respect yourself because you were put on this earth for a reason to do good and be great and n one else's opinion should hold you back from believing that. Likewise to Self-reliance by Ralph Emerson it also gives the lesson of self reliance to be confident in yourself even if others think differently. Emersons piece and Sia's song each show the message that people should be proud of themselves even if people say otherwise because you where born and alive for a reason different from everyone else so you shouldn't listens to others opinions and love yourself for who you are. In Self Reliance, Emerson explains how many people only show a little part of themselves, the only part they want others to see because thats what they are proud of but you should reach for your own success thats all of you and not hide away other parts.

Great detail for the song post. I appreciated the message about spreading joy and positivity. For the Beatles post you taught me a lot about them that I wasn't aware of and did a good job relating back to Emerson's work. For the Whitman piece you took an interesting tone that while it diverts from the original reflects to struggles of the error. Some of the word choice could be a little more sophisticated and I am not sure if screaming gets across what you are really trying to show in the connotation of the word.
