The novel i read is called The Darkest Path. The author of this book is named Jeff Hirsch and the genre is a juvenile fiction. This book takes place in Arizona and states surrounding it. The main characters of the book are Callum Roe, Bear , James Roe, and Natalie aka "Nat". Cal gets captured by the glorious path. He meets a dog named bear who he keeps.Quarles was then shot and killed by Cal. Later Cal finds out that his brother is fully converted to path and their religion. He ran away from path to try and hide/escape them.

Overall i thought this was a good book to read. i would give it a 4 out of five. I feel the ending was rushed a little and was not what i was expecting when i was reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the main character telling their story as they run away. I would recommend it because i actually enjoyed reading it and i usually do not enjoy a lot of books.

Most Significant Quote

"I left the house with an old song turning in my head, its melody bright but distant. I hummed it out loud as i got into the car and set my pack and Bear's collar on the seat next to me. I looked down the road and then I started the engine and drove away."( Hirsch 320)

I think this passage from the novel is important. It shows that Callum never looked back at the past and always looked towards a brighter future no matter how far it may seemed away. This can teach the lesson to always strive and do your best to get what you want no matter how hard it may be.

Interview: Main Character Callum Roe

1. Q: Were you scared when you woke up to the PATH?
A: Of course, I was pinned down to a hard hospital bed with a man looking over me.
2. Q: What was your initial thought when that happened?
A: Well at first i was beyond nervous and did not know what to do. I was asking lots of questions.
3. Q: What was your relationship like with your brother before all of this stuff happened.
A: My brother and I almost seemed inseparable at the time. We were just out at our mothers house when the PATH came and took us away.
4. Q: What made you run after you killed Quarles.
A: Quarles was a big time guy in the PATH and considered a leader there. I could not just stand around and get killed so i took off.
5. Q: Do you remember anything from when they took you in?
A: No not really i feel like i was asleep most of the time almost like a mini coma.
6. Q: What do you think you would do different now?
A: Probably join the PATH along with my brother to stay away from the troubles i went through.
7. Q: Did you learn anything from this journey?
A: Yes. I learned to never stop to get what you want.
8. Q: What did you learn from Natalie?
A: I learned to be tough with every situation and not worry about what others think.
9. Q: Anything from Bear?
A: Yeah he taught me to love everyone and give them a chance.
10. Q: What did you learn from when you killed Quarles?
A: I think i learned that doing something you think is right in the moment may not always turn out to be a good decision as you can see with what happened with me.
