She got out but was trapped in a crowd for hours, When she got out it was almost dark. She got out of the crowd. She started walking until she got grabbed by a drunk man he asked her to dance with her and Violet kicked him in the shins. She ran until she came by train and thought it was going to crash so she made a run for it. She inhaled so much smoke her eyes got blurry and she couldn't see she slipped on horse poop and hit her face on the hard concrete and hit her teeth. She sat there while the pain kicked in until an african american came to help her up and ask if she was ok her name was Myrtle Davies. She was sent from Washington D.C. to a school to learn about being a maid for the rich. Myrtle asked where Violet was headed and Myrtle told her she would take her there. Violet was hungry and saw a hotdog and lemonade stand she asked Myrtle if she wanted some she had enough money to buy two hotdogs. They were on their way to see Chloe.

They get to the Cameron House and meet Mrs. Dexter, Lucy Burns, and Alice Paul. All of these ladies are suffragists but Mrs.Dexter is not in favor of helping Myrtle because she is "colored" and argues with the other woman about it. Myrtle and Violet learned that Chloe has gone to Tennessee because of an important voting session. In the end, Myrtle and Violet are bathed and go to sleep.

Two men called Palmer agents tried to find Mr. Martin, and they questioned the suffragists about him and accused the woman of not being very intelligent because they were female. The two men treated the woman like they were dumb. We see examples of inequality with the Jim Crow car and Myrtle being separated from the rest of the group. Another example of inequality is between men and women, we can tell the agents don't think woman should get the right to vote.
