These initiatives aim to support students who are struggling with stress, anxiety, and depression. According to a recent survey, more than 40% of teenagers reported feeling overwhelmed by schoolwork and social pressure. In response, many schools are hiring professional counselors and offering mental health education during regular class hours. Some schools have even created “wellness rooms,” where students can relax and calm down during the day. Teachers are also receiving training to recognize early signs of mental health issues in their students. Parents have welcomed these changes, saying they feel more confident about their children’s well-being at school. Experts believe that these efforts will help create a healthier and more supportive learning environment.

Title: Rising Plastic Waste Becomes a Global Environmental Concern

Who? Governments, environmental groups, and citizens
What? Are facing serious problems caused by plastic waste
When? In the past decade, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic
Where? All over the world, especially in coastal and urban areas
Why? Because plastic use has increased while recycling rates remain low
How? Through overconsumption, single-use products, and poor waste management

Article:
Plastic waste has become a serious global issue, affecting both land and marine ecosystems. In recent years, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of single-use plastics such as masks, gloves, and food containers has sharply increased. Unfortunately, most of this waste is not properly recycled and ends up in landfills, rivers, and oceans. Environmental groups warn that plastic pollution is harming wildlife and entering the human food chain through microplastics. Some governments are now taking action by banning plastic bags and encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives. However, experts argue that stronger international cooperation and stricter regulations are still needed. Citizens are also being urged to reduce their plastic consumption by choosing reusable items and supporting sustainable products. If no action is taken, the level of plastic pollution could double by 2040, causing irreversible damage to the environment.

Title: Youth Unemployment Rates Continue to Rise Amid Economic Uncertainty

Who? Young job seekers and recent graduates
What? Are struggling to find stable employment
When? Over the past year, especially after recent economic slowdowns
Where? In many developed and developing countries
Why? Due to slow job market recovery and rising competition
How? Through delayed hiring, reduced job openings, and lack of experience

Article:
Youth unemployment has become a growing concern in both developed and developing countries. Recent reports show that the number of young people unable to find stable work has increased significantly over the past year. Economists explain that many companies are delaying new hires due to rising costs and economic uncertainty. At the same time, young applicants often lack the work experience needed to compete with older, more experienced candidates. As a result, many graduates are forced to accept part-time or temporary jobs that do not match their skills. Governments are trying to address this issue by expanding job training programs and supporting internships. However, experts say long-term solutions are needed, including educational reform and greater investment in youth-focused industries. Without meaningful action, the high youth unemployment rate could lead to serious economic and social consequences in the future.

designing for emotion: how products influence human feelings

What is emotional design? Emotional design is a creative approach that makes users feel certain emotions—such as joy, comfort, or nostalgia—through everyday products. Instead of focusing only on function, emotional design aims to create meaningful experiences.

Where is this trend growing? In cities like Seoul, New York, and Tokyo, more companies are investing in emotional design to build stronger connections with users. Who is using emotional design in their work? Industrial designers, UX experts, and psychologists are working together to design products that speak to human emotions.

Why is emotional design important? Because people often make decisions based on how they feel, not just on logic. Products that trigger positive emotions tend to be used longer and remembered better, which benefits both users and companies.

When did emotional design start gaining attention? It became more widely recognized in the early 2000s, when designers began to focus more on user experience and emotional response.

How do designers create emotionally engaging products? They combine elements like color, shape, texture, sound, and storytelling to design products that feel personal and memorable. These emotional triggers help transform ordinary items into meaningful experiences.

As emotional design spreads across industries, it is changing not only what people buy but also how they connect with the world around them.

In recent years, many teenagers have been reading fewer books than before.

Who does this affect? Teen students across middle and high schools worldwide.

What is happening? The number of teens who regularly read books is declining sharply.

When did this trend start? It has become noticeable over the past decade, especially with the rise of smartphones.

Where is this happening? In schools, homes, and even libraries where fewer young readers visit.

Why are teens reading less? Experts say that digital distractions like social media, video games, and streaming platforms play a big role.

How are teens spending their time instead? Many prefer watching videos or chatting online rather than sitting down with a book.

This shift raises concerns among educators and parents.

They worry that reduced reading could affect critical thinking and imagination skills.

Some suggest that schools should encourage reading by introducing more engaging books or allowing time for reading during school hours.

Others believe that integrating technology, such as e-books and audiobooks, might help reconnect teens with reading.

Ultimately, understanding the reasons behind this decline is essential to promote literacy and a love for books in younger generations.

📰 Politika Weekly

“Echo Chamber Politics: How Social Media Amplifies Elite Power in the Digital Age”

By: kang minji / June 2025

We live in an era where democracy appears more "open" than ever before. Ironically, however, the expansion of individual connectivity and civic participation has resulted in the consolidation of political power. At the center of this paradox lies social media. Today, political leaders no longer depend solely on traditional media but actively build and control their own communication networks, shaping public opinion to maintain power. Central to this strategy is the phenomenon known as the echo chamber.

An echo chamber refers to the process by which users are repeatedly exposed to similar opinions due to social media algorithms, reinforcing cognitive bias and weakening critical thinking. Despite appearing to offer a diversity of viewpoints, social media platforms often trap users in ideologically homogenous spaces. Alarmingly, those who understand and exploit this mechanism most effectively are none other than political elites.

One clear example is Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Since taking office, he has tightened control over the media and used government-sponsored digital content to promote far-right nationalism. His administration systematically excludes opposition narratives by constructing online echo chambers that favor pro-government discourse. Similarly, former U.S. President Donald Trump went beyond Facebook and Twitter by launching Truth Social, a platform tailored to his base. There, a curated ecosystem filters favorable information, dismisses criticism as "fake news," and amplifies only supportive voices.

Such patterns have become increasingly pronounced over the past decade. The 2016 Cambridge Analytica scandal, the mobilization of online political fandoms during South Korea’s 2022 presidential election, and the widespread dissemination of misinformation via WhatsApp during Brazil’s elections all illustrate a disturbing trend. In each case, political elites engineered echo chambers to shape narratives, manipulate information flows, and consolidate their authority.

This dynamic is especially evident in democracies with high levels of digital engagement. In countries like the U.S., South Korea, and Brazil, social media has become an indispensable political tool. But while public participation has become more accessible, it occurs within spaces that are highly curated and algorithmically controlled.

Why is this structure problematic? At its core, social media relies on algorithms designed to maximize user engagement—and by extension, advertising revenue. These algorithms prioritize emotionally charged content that provokes strong reactions. Political elites have weaponized this system. By circulating messages that evoke anger, fear, and affirmation, they cultivate emotionally homogeneous communities—closed-off spaces that reward loyalty and discourage dissent. The outcome is not a marketplace of ideas but a political arena dominated by echo chambers and authoritarian-style leadership.

Professor Hwang Su-jin of Seoul National University's Department of Political Science and International Relations emphasizes, “Digital democracy only appears democratic on the surface. In a system where algorithms are opaque and political communication lacks accountability, what we are witnessing is merely a rebranded form of oligarchy.”

Rather than promoting political equality, social media today functions as a tool for the entrenchment of elite political power through control over information structures. The critical question, then, is not “How connected are we?” but rather, “Who controls that connection?”

Many students find mathematics challenging or even boring. They often wonder, "When will I ever use this in real life?" But the truth is, math is everywhere, quietly influencing our daily routines in countless ways.

From the moment we wake up, math is at work. Our alarm clocks rely on precise time calculations. When we check the weather forecast, we're looking at data analyzed using complex statistical models. Cooking or baking? We use fractions and ratios to measure ingredients accurately. Even something as simple as setting a budget for your allowance involves basic arithmetic.

Beyond personal tasks, math is crucial in many technologies we depend on. GPS systems use geometry and trigonometry to calculate routes and distances. Our smartphones, computers, and the internet all function because of advanced mathematical principles, from data compression to encryption.

Even in seemingly unrelated fields like art and music, mathematical concepts like symmetry, patterns, and ratios play a significant role.

Many high school students today are struggling with mental health issues, and experts believe smartphones may be part of the problem. According to a recent study by Seoul Youth Research Center, teenagers who spend more than four hours a day on their phones are more likely to report anxiety and depression. The study was conducted between March and May 2025 across several schools in Seoul. Students mainly used smartphones for social media, gaming, and watching short videos. These activities, especially before bedtime, were found to affect sleep quality and emotional stability. Experts explained that constant notifications and online comparisons can lead to low self-esteem and stress. To address this issue, schools and parents are being encouraged to set healthy screen time limits. Understanding how and why smartphones impact teens is an important step toward better mental well-being.

By leveraging the power of social media, online platforms, and personal branding, they are reaching a broader audience than ever before-especially among younger generations such as Millennials and Gen Z.

This shift has become more noticeable with the rise of remote work and increased online engagement. From Instagram to YouTube, distributors now use influencer-style marketing and storytelling to build trust, promote products, and recruit new members. These strategies not only lower marketing costs but also create a sense of personal connection between sellers and consumers.

However, the growing popularity of digital network marketing has also raised ethical concerns. Some critics argue that certain companies blur the line between legitimate sales and illegal pyramid schemes. Others question the transparency of income expectations and the pressure placed on new recruits to invest financially without guaranteed returns.

Despite these challenges, network marketing continues to attract aspiring entrepreneurs who value flexibility and independence. As the industry evolves, clear regulations and ethical guidelines will be essential to protect consumers and ensure sustainable business practices in the digital age.

Libraries Aren’t Dying - They’re Just Changing

Reports of the library’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Libraries across the globe are undergoing a profound metamorphosis, proving that rather than dying, they are simply evolving to meet the fluid demands of the 21st century.

In the United States, data from the American Library Association (ALA) shows that although physical circulation has slightly declined, e-book checkouts rose by more than 20% in 2023 alone. Likewise, the Public Library Association reports a sharp increase in the use of streaming services and online databases. Platforms like Libby and OverDrive are now household names, allowing users to borrow e-books, audiobooks, and magazines anytime, anywhere.

This transformation is clearly visible in Korea as well. According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the average number of digital resources per public library in Korea reached 478,000 in 2023—a more than 600% increase over the past few years. Currently, over 80% of public libraries operate digital media rooms, and many have expanded their services to include free Wi-Fi, 5G access, and dedicated staff for digital content support.

But the evolution doesn’t end in cyberspace. Physical libraries are also transforming into lively community hubs. Gone are the days when libraries were silent, solitary spaces. Today, they host coding workshops, resume clinics, language courses, and cultural events that draw in people of all ages. In Finland, Helsinki’s Oodi Central Library is a striking example of this new vision: it offers recording studios, 3D printers, exhibition areas, and even play spaces for children, all integrated into a vibrant public space.

Similarly, Korean libraries are embracing this trend by incorporating makerspaces, innovation labs, and flexible reading and collaboration zones. Some even provide mental wellness rooms and career consulting services. These transformations position libraries as vital agents of digital inclusion and lifelong learning.

Experts argue that this dynamic adaptation ensures libraries remain indispensable. Far from being outdated, they are thriving by redefining their purpose—connecting people to knowledge, technology, and each other in an age where information is both abundant and essential.

========================

Who? These creative professionals define how a brand, product, or story looks—but more importantly, how it feels. From advertisements to websites, magazine layouts to music videos, they ensure every visual detail aligns with a clear message and emotional tone.

Visual directors make key decisions on colors, lighting, composition, and style. Their job is to create consistency and impact—making brands instantly recognizable and memorable. For example, Apple’s clean, minimalist aesthetic or Gucci’s bold, artistic campaigns are results of strong visual direction.

They work across many fields including fashion, advertising, publishing, and tech. From early planning to final editing, they collaborate with designers, photographers, stylists, and marketers to bring a cohesive vision to life.

Today, with attention spans shrinking and competition growing, visuals often speak louder than words. That’s why visual directors—who combine artistic vision with strategic thinking—are essential in shaping how we experience the world around us. As technology continues to evolve, their role will only become more central to our everyday visual culture.

Promoting artists and engaging with fans through viral content

When? Since the digital era, especially after the 2010s

Where? Global platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram

Why? To encourage fan participation and build emotional connections

How? By using teaser videos, challenges, behind-the-scenes clips, and live streaming

Article:

In recent years, the entertainment industry has actively utilized various viral content strategies to strengthen emotional bonds with fans and increase artist visibility. These strategies gained momentum after the 2010s, as social media platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram became widely adopted.

Entertainment companies release teaser videos before an artist’s comeback to heighten anticipation, and promote challenges where fans replicate the artist’s dance or song. These trends spread organically as fans engage and share. Behind-the-scenes footage and live streaming allow artists to connect more intimately with fans, fostering a sense of familiarity and real-time interaction.

This type of content transforms fans from passive viewers into active participants in the promotional process. Many fans create short edits or reaction videos and help spread the content globally. Viral content is no longer a one-way broadcast—it’s a collaborative process between artists and their audience.

However, since viral content spreads rapidly, it also carries the risk of backlash. Entertainment companies must carefully plan and monitor content to avoid misunderstandings or negative reactions. There have been cases where poorly edited videos damaged an artist’s image, showing the importance of risk management.

Experts emphasize that viral content should focus not only on short-term attention but also on long-term fan engagement. Rather than aiming for a one-time trend, companies need to develop sustainable strategies that continuously involve and grow their fanbase.

In conclusion, viral content has become a central strategy in the entertainment industry. As fandom culture evolves, these strategies will continue to develop in more innovative and creative ways to maintain strong fan connections.

Over the past five to 10 years, there has been a tendency among young parents in their 20s and 40s to avoid or minimize discipline.

They are reluctant to impose sanctions or control themselves because they respect their children, and choose parenting methods that are not disciplined at all or make them very comfortable.

Above all, discipline is often equated with corporal punishment or discipline, avoiding discipline itself.

This phenomenon is particularly noticeable at home, and parents choose to adapt to their child's mood without setting any rules to avoid conflict with them.

Also, as schools and educational institutions have less disciplinary authority, even teachers are showing a passive attitude toward guidance.

With the misconception that discipline is considered violence, parents have no confidence in parenting and have an attitude toward their children.

In particular, parents who misunderstand "child-centered parenting" as unconditional acceptance and freedom often do not discipline their children properly even if they show obvious problematic behavior.

Experts advise that the situation requires discipline with consistent rules and determination, not emotional corporal punishment.

In the end, the problem of not presenting clear standards of behavior to children is growing, but parents are only trying to talk that cannot replace discipline

Since then, the company has developed advanced techniques to grow mycelium into custom shapes using agricultural waste like corn husks and sawdust. The result is a strong, lightweight, and fully biodegradable material that can replace plastic, foam, and even wood in many products.

Today, eco-conscious designers across the globe are using mycelium to create furniture items such as chairs, tables, and lamps, as well as innovative packaging materials.

Unlike traditional materials, mycelium products do not release harmful chemicals and return safely to the earth after use. This 'Mycelium furniture' comes at a critical time when plastic pollution and deforestation are threatening the planet’s health. Global companies like IKEA are now investing in mycelium-based technologies, recognizing their potential to reduce environmental impact and promote circular design.

Experts believe that mycelium will play a key role in shifting industrial production toward greener, more responsible practices. More importantly, this innovation is changing the way designers think — no longer focusing only on style or function, but also on life cycle and ecological impact.

By turning to natural, renewable materials like mushrooms, the design industry is proving that sustainability and creativity can grow together. With strong support from both businesses and consumers, mycelium furniture is not just a trend — it’s a powerful step toward a cleaner, smarter future.

TITLE: Effect of Mental Health Awareness on Nursing Care

Who: Nurses and patients are the key stakeholders affected by mental health awareness in healthcare settings.
What: Increased mental health awareness influences the way nurses assess, communicate, and provide care.
When: This effect has become especially prominent in recent years, as mental health becomes a global concern.
Where: The impact is observed across hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities worldwide.
Why: Nurses with higher awareness are better equipped to identify symptoms and respond with empathy and understanding.
How: Training programs, workshops, and educational campaigns help nurses improve their knowledge and attitudes toward mental health.

As mental health issues rise globally, awareness among nurses plays a crucial role in improving patient outcomes. Nurses who receive proper education on mental health are more likely to recognize early signs of emotional distress. This allows for timely intervention and prevents further complications. Enhanced awareness also helps reduce stigma, encouraging patients to speak openly about their struggles. In many healthcare institutions, mental health training has become a standard part of professional development. As a result, nurses are developing stronger communication and listening skills. These improvements lead to better nurse-patient relationships and higher satisfaction with care. Overall, mental health awareness significantly enriches the quality and effectiveness of nursing care.

These platforms allow brands to advertise directly on retailer-owned websites, apps, and in-store digital screens by using first-party data from customer shopping behaviors and purchase histories. This approach enables brands to deliver highly personalized ads when consumers show strong purchase intent. The trend gained momentum in the late 2010s and accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic as e-commerce surged worldwide. Retail media is now widely adopted across North America, Europe, and Asia, both online and in physical stores with digital signage. The decline of third-party cookies and tighter privacy regulations have increased the value of first-party data, making retail media essential for effective and compliant advertising. Brands are shifting budgets from traditional and social media channels to retail media, using AI and real-time data to optimize ad performance. This ongoing transformation benefits all parties involved: brands achieve better return on investment, retailers open new revenue streams, and consumers receive more relevant and timely advertising experiences.

Who can offer meaningful comfort to adolescents struggling with anxiety and depression? Beyond family, friends, and professional counselors, literature has emerged as a powerful companion for teenagers navigating emotional difficulties. Writers from different cultures and generations give voice to emotions that many young people find difficult to express, offering characters and stories that mirror their inner worlds.

When do adolescents typically turn to literature for support? Many find themselves drawn to books during periods of isolation, stress, or personal crisis. Especially in moments when they feel misunderstood by those around them, literary works become a private refuge where they can process their thoughts and emotions at their own pace.

Where does this emotional connection between literature and readers happen? It can occur anywhere a young person feels safe and undisturbed—whether it’s a quiet corner of a library, the privacy of their bedroom, or even within the structured environment of a classroom during a literature lesson. These spaces give adolescents the freedom to immerse themselves in stories that resonate with their experiences.

What makes literature particularly effective in supporting mental well-being? Through relatable narratives, emotionally rich characters, and poetic language, literature offers readers the chance to understand and confront their feelings indirectly. It reassures them that they are not alone in their struggles and introduces new ways of thinking about and coping with difficult emotions.

How does literature achieve this positive influence? By creating a safe emotional distance between the reader and real-life issues, stories allow adolescents to observe and reflect on problems through the lens of fictional characters. This process helps them gain clarity, empathy, and resilience, as well as develop healthier emotional coping strategies.

Why is this connection between literature and adolescent mental health so important today? With rising rates of anxiety, depression, and emotional distress among young people worldwide, accessible and non-threatening tools for emotional support are urgently needed. Literature provides not only a source of comfort but also a means of emotional education, fostering empathy and hope in a world where many teens feel disconnected.

For this reason, mental health professionals and educators are increasingly encouraging schools to integrate literature-based therapy programs and discussions on mental health topics in classrooms. Literature holds the power to heal, inspire, and remind adolescents that no matter how difficult life becomes, they are never truly alone.

Artificial Intelligence in Schools: Will It Help or Will It Disturb?

There are two main ways to use AI in class. First, it is a way to provide customized learning based on the analysis of learner data. In the case of AI used, problems are provided to students, the process of solving the provided problems is analyzed to diagnose the student level and recommend necessary learning contents, and similar problems are presented several times so that students can repeatedly learn about weak learning contents. The process of identifying these processes, conducting additional education to students, or sharing with parents to provide counseling that suggests the appropriate educational direction for the student's current level is possible. Second is how students receive help from Generative AI in the process of learning. Generative AI can play an important role in filling in students' deficiencies. In fact, since the introduction of AI, students with low grades have increased their scores by analyzing only deficiencies separately and performing repetitive learning. People are concerned that if AI presents everything, students will lose their ability to think, so they may lose their way of thinking. However, as students use AI for learning. There is no need to worry too much about the decline in students' learning ability because it can make sufficient changes to what AI has presented. However, since students may rely too much on AI, I believe that the Ministry of Education needs to set guidelines for the use of AI technology, such as limiting the available age. Students should also regulate their autonomous use of AI until these guidelines are clearly released. And I can't remember in detail whether what I saw was YouTube or shorts, but while reading the comments, I read something that someone wrote down. The article was about artificial intelligence, and he wrote that he was a university professor. It is said that universities are also using ChatGPT.
