PROBLEM #1: False Sense of Nationalism

Most of our overseas Filipino workers do not leave their families for the bare sake of doing so. They simply do not have a choice. Insisting that they only do this because certain countries offer a better life is an insult to those who genuinely and deeply love their homeland but are left with no options in order to survive and sustain their families' necessities.

It should be taught, exposed, included, and unraveled in such subjects in the Department of Education that we do not simply lack job opportunities for both degree and non-degree holders due to our economic situation—the Philippines still holding the title of a third-world country. It should be noted that it is our overall system that prevents us from doing so. It should also be acknowledged and included that in imparting knowledge and opening minds, we should teach children that resilience is not always the answer and that we should begin to practice demanding accountability from those who are compelled and have made a commitment to serve this country. Children, particularly students, may assume that working abroad is their only alternative when, in fact, we need so many services and products here and that we're more than capable of providing them if only the "green pastures" were explored in depth and prioritized. If only this country furnished equal opportunities in all aspects of the workforce, regardless of the demand from other countries.

Prioritizing and focusing on the Economic Development Plan in order to provide higher wages for our working classes (teachers, nurses, firefighters, farmers, healthcare workers) by levying higher taxes on the wealthy (billionaires, corporate owners, government officials, tec.). Through this, we are able to serve as a representation of real patriotism by living in a world where all classes are bound to serve it wholeheartedly and are not being forced just to show plenty of lives offered in capitalism.

To ensure the safety of our OFW, we must strengthen relationships and promoting peace talks with laborers and officials from in-demand countries. This government should also be able to honor our OFW through financial concessions. This will aide young people in paying tribute to our hardworking heroes and breaking down prejudices that have been instilled in their career choices.

Our country places a high value on learners and graduates who are studying and/or have worked in the fields of Science (Medicine) and Mathematics. According to common inferences, most schools, particularly small ones, only offer STEM tracks/courses because they are usually interested in exporting the services and products that our graduates can provide, leaving us with no choice but to lose our best workers.

Most schools should offer and be more open to admitting all students on their own chosen tracks without having to consider their financial capability. Quality education should be provided for all and not only focus on STEM students so that our young dreamers will freely decide and excel in their chosen careers.

As I’ve mentioned in the previous problem, if our economy could only grow and develop by demanding higher taxes from the higher sectors of society that benefit the most from our laborers, we wouldn't have to export our high-quality service providers to meet the needs of other countries, and instead focus on our countries’ sake.
