It switches between Max's point and Liesel's point of view so we don't just see them as how they are described. Hitler coming to power impacts Liesel's life so much. Without Hitler, Max would have never come to her house, and she would have never stolen her second book. Hans would have never been sent to war, and Liesel's neighborhood would have never been bombed. The author tells Liesel's story, while including historical aspects.
