This song one of my favorites. The song starts off at a with soothing clarinet melody accompanied by the soft click of a drum. Soon after, the symphony chimes in with the melody. A fast tempo soon follows giving the song a fuller and bigger sound. The song dances between a fast and slow tempo.

This song begins with the haunting tap of a timpani drum, and then brings in the collaboration of low and high brass. In the program notes, this song is a "Lutheran Church hymn that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ." It is a beautiful and intriguing song.

I attended the Symphonic Band of UNT on September 19, 2017 at the Murchison Performing Arts Center. This was my first time seeing a professional symphony, and I had a great time. I was a little overwhelmed at how big the hall was and how wide the variety of music was. However, I felt at ease whenever the music started playing. The low brass harmonized with the woodwinds and high brass leaving behind beautiful resonating sound. I do not know a lot about music, but I felt like I fit right into the scene. People of all ages around me were dressed to the nines and enthusiastic about the show. Furthermore, the conductor, Dennis W Fisher, presented a diverse scene of music. The songs and composers being: "Just Flyin' by Julie Giroux (2015) "Dies Natalis" by Howard Hanson (1972) "Carnival Overture" by Dvorák (1891) "Danzón" Arturo Márquez (1994) and "Variations of a Hymn" Claude T. Smith (1984). Attending the symphony was an enlightening experience for me and I cannot wait for concert season.
