Something i learned from the video is that, a lot of the books have LGBTQ+, race, and sexual themes. I think the parents and politicians are scared or think its to complex for kids, or they just don't want kids to know about those things, even though its a very important thing for kids to be educated on. This matters because kids, need to know about Race, LGBTQ, and race, those are things you have to know going through you're life.

Something that I learnt from the video is that many books that mention racism, police brutality, slavery, and LGBTQ+ are being banned from schools and libraries by parents and adults who believe that students and children should not be reading books containing those subjects because they "cannot handle" what's being talked about inside the books. This is important because the stuff they are banning certain books for are in books that they are openly supporting.

This matters because kids will just learn less, or maybe just learn the wrong information, and they can't think for themselves as much because they don't know some information.

This matters because it shows how though we have freedom of speech, it's going to be bent in a way that manipulates the public, politicians and government officials go out of their way to ban books that speak out on our countries' issues because when they say harm, they mean it's harmful for them, politicians and officials don't want more publicization on the things they disagree with or the topics they are scared to bring up.

This video confirmed my thoughts about how books that show our history and real life events are often covered and hidden from the world. An example is the events that happened in racism and how books that show real life dilemmas are often banned or don't receive enough attention. This matters because if we are the future we deserve our rights to knowledge and the truth. Content should not have to be censored or banned.

Which in my opinion was one of my favorite books. This matters because the reason books are out, is so that kids can learn the history of what happened in the world like, Police brutality, Discrimination in races, and how what you go by can affect you. Do i think books should be banned? absolutely, but the things it should be banned for shouldn't be over things like books talking about personal experiences like police brutality, it should be banned for reasons like inappropriate language and things that affect people about what was said in the book.

Something I learned from the video is that a lot of the books that were banned contain graphic items like LGBTQIA+ and racism. We also found out that parents have a lot of authority and can request books to be pulled from the schools and removed from libraries. this matters because it proves to us that the adults are trying to hide real world problems from us and just believe in what they know. They don't think we need to be educated on these things because they're scared for us to know the truth and retaliate. Books should be banned but not banned based on what we should hide from younger generations. Books that should be banned are the ones that everyone agrees on, not just the pro or con side of the argument. Everyone has free speech and we should have to limit what we can say for publicity.

something i learned from this video is that some parents who have bias against topics that are in these banned books will push the bans and use there parental rights to enforce their ideals. i think this also comes from the years of ideals in family lines where there is some hate in them and instead of admitting it they just lable the books or message as hurtful just to keep their children away and keep their parental ideals to go onto their kid. And this matters because the people who the books are wrote about maybe wont have that message get to the people they would want it to reach and it is more harmful to ban the books then to keep them too

Something I learned from this video is that the reoccurring topics that come up within these many banned books show LGBTQ+, racial representation and issues. Some are also seen as too sexual or contain topics like sexual assault. What I took away from the video was how these books aren't publishes to cause harm when they are containing heavy topics, it is the marginalized people that are telling THEIR stories and THEIR experiences, and they write them so young folks have a place to reside and to connect to. This matters because its not like these books are being published to harm the audience, its authors using literature and poetry to share their stories and let especially younger folks know that they aren't alone in their experiences and in their lives. It matters because I think nowadays a lot of parents try to shy away the world and act like there aren't problems going on in the world. Just because you hide your child away from it, doesn't mean it isn't happening still. And I think that hiding them away from these topics won't help them in the long run, it will actually make them less prepared and less educated.

Banning books is just the start of silencing the minority, we're seen them do a lot worse in the past. They're banning books that quite literally TEACH children! Just because those books have things they don't want children knowing. Why? Because (some of) those books villainize them!

Books are usually banned because parents or people who don't support their ideas are against them.

This matters because most books that are banned are books that teach students and kids about real world issues and highlights the main problems while educating students on how to prepare for these issues and protect themselves.

I also learned that there's sections for banned books: Anti-Police section, Race section, Sexuality section, etc. On top of this fact, the majority of books banned are books regarding sexuality, race, slavery, or real world history in general. Most of these books are made for kids, to give them a a better understanding on answers they don't know the answer to, but yet the most common excuse is that these books are too egregious for students. Students who relate to these kind of books may look at themselves differently or think something is wrong with them due to the banning of these books that highlight who they are.

This matters because it can make the authors of the books feel insulted that a book they wrote about their life, or an opportunity for everyone to learn about them, gets banned for their target readers to not read about it anymore. In other words, it's almost as if the ones who banned the book did not like the author's life experiences, not to make it sound worse than it really is.

Something I learned (told again) were that books hold power to what they can contain like the book Uncle toms cabin. This matters because this book was a important book leading up to civil war. When this book was released it spread like wild fire up in the north and south. The norther's when they read this book was eye opening and jaw opening book to the reality of slavery making some norther's even more sympatric towards the slaves. While the Southern slavery owner's were enraged that this book was made about what they did to there slaves. Due to this in some ways this deepen the gap between the south and north which was already far apart as is but this was one of many deepening gaps that happened.

Something I learned from the video is that a large amount of books in the U.S. are banned or challenged every year. According to the ALA's banned books data about censorship attempts in 2024, 26% were initiated by pressure groups, 36% by school board or administration, and 10% by politicians. From the video, I learned that the pressure groups are mostly, if not all, conservative parent's and community groups. I think people challenge these books because they are scared of the change they might cause. My bet is that many of these parents or administrative entities are opposed to some of these diverse opinions being brought into their community. They also might want to restrict their children's access to these books, so that the children's opinions might not be swayed. I also bet that many of these groups or administrative entities requesting these bans come from communities with people that might never have known someone that is openly LGBTQ+, might never have known a person of color. might never really learned anything outside of their own language. And so they try to ban books, because they do not know much else besides the bigoted stereotypes that circulate amongst them. Books can reveal the humanity of their subject, and break through strong stereotypes. I think this is why a lot of these organizations try to ban these books, because they are afraid. Students, youth, never advocate for bans, because they desire to learn new things, to heal, to make friends. It is the fear of the old that is keeping back the curiosity of the new.

Something I learn form this video is that many books throughout history have been banned because they challenged the ideas or beliefs of the time. Some books tlaked about freedom, equality, race, or gender, and that made certain people uncomfortable or afraid of change. The video showed that banning books doesn't stop ideas, it actually makes people more curious to read and learn from them. it olso helped me understand that books can be powerful tools for education and for sharing voices that are silenced.

This matters because it shows how important it is to protect the freedom to read and express ourselves. When books are banned it limits our chance to think for ourselves and learn from different perspectives. Learning about banned books reminds us that reading isn't just about stories.

Something I learned about banned books in the video is that they're getting banned for being to explicit and graphic for children and for being LGBTQ and touching sensitive topics like Sexual harassment and racial profiling and police brutality. This is important/matters because kids are getting disconnected from books that touch these topics and make them unable to learn about them in general, these books help the young people understand more about the world and how some people get treated for being who they are or what they are as people. These books also matter because some share their experiences of being LGBTQ, racially profiled, and apart of being a different race.

Something I learned from this video is that books are being banned for talking about things like, police brutality, one book banned was, "The Hate U Give". Which in my opinion was one of my favorite books. This matters because the reason books are out, is so that kids can learn the history of what happened in the world like, police brutality, discrimination in races, and how what you go by can affect you. Do I think books should be banned? Absolutely, but the things it should be banned for shouldn't be over things like books talking about personal experiences like, police brutality, it should be banned for reasons like inappropriate language and things that affect people about what was said in the book.

Something i learned from this video is that books are being banned due LGBTQ, racism, police brutality, for example like the book " The hate u give" this book has racism and police brutality. there are also books seen as too sexual or contain topics like sexual assault. i think books shouldn't be banned because they have been one of the most powerful tools for learning, growth and freedom of thought. Yet, many people and institutions have tried to ban books because they consider them offensive, controversial or inappropriate. while it is understandable that some material might be sensitive, banning books is not the solution. books should not be banned because doing so limits freedom of expression, prevents people from thinking critically, and erases important voices and experiences from out shared culture.

Something i learned from the video is many banned books deal with tough topics like LGBTQ+ and racism. It seems like parents have a lot of power to decide what books are allowed in school and libraries. This matters because it makes me think that adults might be trying to shelter us from reality and aren't giving us enough credit to handle the truth. Instead of banning books based on personal opinions, maybe books should only be banned if most people agree they're problematic. We should balance free speech with responsibility, especially when it comes to what we expose younger generations.

I learned from the video that many books that get banned talk about tough and graphic topics like LGBTQIA+ and racism. This matters because its clear that parents have an powerful influence over what books are allowed in schools and libraries. But this shows me that adults might be trying to shield us from reality and stick to what they know they might not think we need to know about these issues because they're afraid of how we'll react. But they can't protect the new generations forever. It's good to know about our history and not only it's good parts but also it's bad parts. Everyone should know that this world as it is right now is not as bad as it was for mainly colored people back then. In my opinion, books should be banned if there's a board consensus and something that is really offense and not nice to put out, but it shouldn't be banned because one side of the argument thinks so. Everyone should be able to express themselves, but we also need to be mindful of what we say and how it affects others.
