The classroom has little to no art on the walls hence the lesson that took place. The classroom teacher explained this is a great way to get the students excited about being apart of the classroom community by adding their own personal touch on the walls. It is also a great way to see their communication with other students and their self managing.

Through 7.04 I am looking at teaching a vast range of topics such as science as I haven't taught this except from yr 1 paper. One thing I have taken away from my placement classroom is the importance of organisation. My AT is a very organised person and I admire her for that.   • ‘takeaways’ My practicum teacher runs a tight ship when her children are in her home space (seating and eating and mat manners). She is clear with her expectations and consistent. This is helpful for me as I am able to follow suit. She has been modeling relationship building and strategies with me also. She has communicated that she wants me to teach as much as possible and continue with the teaching outside the 5 weeks, this has given me confidence and I feel supported. 
  • Teaching/focusing on/strengthening for this practicum: One area I really want to ace is working collaboratively, figure out how this works within the team and learn the literacy program they use and work on my assessment for learning. In my last practicum I missed valuable opportunities to assess the students, and capture this assessment. This will be an area of focus for me also.

The colab class I am in is a good example of how well it can work. The teachers converse with each other about what is happening next and they all know each others' strengths so use that to benefit the tamariki. The teachers don't own particular values and opinions.
    I would like to work on HOW to ensure colab classes work well, the conversations had and how teachers are able to work with and off each other and their strengths.

    • My takeaways from my practicum school pre prac are to "go in fast and go hard on setting expectations for behaviour and learning. This should be the main focus for the start of the year.

    I really want to concentrate on the transitional times during the day. and viewing the teaching day as a whole.
    Another area I want to concentrate on is behaviour management, at my placement school this is set by individual teachers for their own classrooms.

This allowed me to get a proper sense of routine and allowed me to start forming learning relationships with the students. This is my first time in a junior class that is not all about play-to-learn, while beneficial, it is exciting to continue their foundational learning which is more curriculum focused. 

    My AT is super organised and has given me the outlook for learning for the first two terms, which gives me confidence and time to prepare future lessons or just get an idea of where the learning will go from day dot.  

    I want to strengthen my use of Te Reo Māori. The school I am currently at is very focused on moving away from token use and applying it in everyday situations through teaching sentences and using questions that need to be answered in Te Reo.

    My AT has a very strong established classroom culture. This something that I immediately noticed on my first day. Some things that I had taken from this was the level of independence each child is given. With an establish classroom culture each child is given a role and a purpose. Considering this for my practicum I will continue to establish this culture and allow for student led opportunities in my lessons. At the moment I am strengthening relationships with the students, and creating as many learning conversations as I can whilst there.

    Mixed ability grouping in Mathematics. I have already had a discussion with my AT about this and it is something I want continue to improve on due to the importance of it! I will continue to research and use my own knowledge in this area to successfully complete this goal.

    I have only met the learners once but I have met my AT a couple of times and we get on really well. It is very clear to me how necessery it is to maintain the structure and routine that the class is used to. Being firm but kind and using names instead of generalisations to help build those relationships. we have had a PD already around trauma informed education. Meeting the learners last week was awesome and I am excited to be working with them. 
    I think one think I am going to find challenging, is planning for prac. I have been told that I am to plan exactly as my teacher plans, handwriting to be delivered the same and all of the subject areas to be delivered exactly the same. I am feeling that there is not much room for me to be assertive in my planing and do new things with the learners. But I can see why it is best for them that it is that way.
