The Sioux would construct teepees because their tribe was hunting-based and nomadic, meaning that they were always on the move on the hunt for Bison. They would construct teepees as temporary and easy to build shelter on the road. We found this on Encyclopeida Brittanica.

The Great Plains are a region that consist of the 10 modern day states of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. They are a sprawling land of flat grassland full of wildlife, and the main tribes that were located there were the Sioux, Comanche and Wichita. The Sioux were a mobile society because their whole life was centered around hunting buffalo and since buffalo were always on the move, so were the Sioux.

The bison that the Sioux hunted provided them with a lot of resources, which they would all utilize. They would use the bones of the buffalo to make tools and cutlery, the hides for clothes and teepees, and they would fully utilize all of the meat for eating. Because the bison were the basis of their society and key to their survival, the Sioux respected the animals they were hunting, unlike the american hunters that would decimate their numbers. The Sioux never hunted more Bison than they needed.
