I'm truly more mindful of my misconceptions whether I am aware of them or not. Those that I have identified, I am determined to keep at the forefront in an attempt to "break the cycle." Those that I am not aware of yet, I hope to be ready to receive the difference in understanding and perspective in order to allow me to grow.

As a white person, I wonder how exhausting it must be for my colleagues of color to feel like they have to be the ones to speak on behalf of their race or on behalf of "minorities" (which I understand now is a banned word). It's another layer of my privilege that I should be the one to speak up but am not expected to be the one to speak up.

I think it's also important not to tip toe around some of these big ideas and the challenging emotions that they may elicit. Even in this discussion we've talked about how this chapter gives us the "truth". But the reality is that this "truth" has been there for many of our colleagues and students. Our awareness needs to broaden so that we aren't just finding or accepting this truth because it was in this book. Understanding our responsibility (especially if, per societal norms, we hold power and privilege) to read, listen, and learn to understand and to accept the role we have and play in these "truths".
