Most immigrants are actually legally in the US. 44% are naturalized citizens and 27% are green card holders. 25.5% of immigrants are illegally here but many of them had visas and they just expired(40% of the 25%). Overall, most immigrants are allowed to be in the US.

I found it interesting that there are so many people are technically allowed to be in the US because the media makes the numbers sound much worse like closer to 50%.

The website says in previous years the amount of undocumented immigrants have declined and now have stabilized. The best year for documented immigration was 1907 when about 1.3 million legal immigrants came to the US. I found it surprising that the undocumented immigrants have stabilized, I thought there were immigrants flooding into the US. This information is significant because it shows that the country has been working to document these immigrant and giving them a safe home, this also proves people wrong about there complaints on undocumented immigrants.

The article says,"Many students immigrant ancestors who arrived between 1790 and 1924 would not have been allowed under the current policy." This quote is significant because many people believe that because their ancestors came here 100s of years ago that it is very easy for people to immigrate here legally, when in reality there is a very long and hard process for obtaining citizenship in the United States and has changed from many years ago. There are many requirements for citizenship that could take up to 10 years to receive. Many people who came here hundred of years ago would not be able to come here legally now under the new requirements.

even though moving to the us is hard this document shows that immigrants. ¨35 percent of those age 5 or older speak English “very well” and 21 percent speak it “well,” according to the U.S. Census Bureau.¨ Over the years like in 2015 immigrants have came a long way, they ¨must speak, read, write and understand the English language, not only for the naturalization application process, but also so they can pass a 100-question civics test that has both oral and written components.¨

the myth that refugees aren't screened before entering the U.S. is just simply false. this is because multiple background checks are placed when trying to get into the U.S. such as finger print tests interviews and health screenings. also the average time it takes for the government to approve refugee status for one individual is 18-24 months. this was honestly surprising to me since waiting 18-24 months is a crazy amount of time which is something that I never knew

What surprised me is that they don't care about immigrants worker- safety laws but if you are a citizen for the united states then they will try to make sure that you don't get hurt, Which I feel like its unfair because we are all human and the immigrants care about their life just as much as we do, so we should take consideration to do the same of them and they do for us (American citizens).

The idea that undocumented immigrants do not contribute to the economy and reap all the rewards of being a citizen, is false. Like average citizens, those that are undocumented pay tax on property and goods. It is reported that in 2017, undocumented immigrants "pay an estimated 11.74 billion in state and local taxes". I find the fact that documented immigrants are ineligible for any benefits until they have lived in the United States for longer than five years interesting. I find this interesting because many Americans often overlook the lack of benefits and taxes on documented immigrants due to their overwhelming concern over undocumented immigrants.

This document shows that no mater where the wall is you can’t stop people from crossing over. Even though the percentage of Mexicans coming illegally has decreased people from other countries sneaking in increased. My article talks about different ways people sneak in like through boats, land, sky so just putting a border around Mexico will increase the chances of other countries from coming over now so why not just let it be. I think the us should provide different ways for others to become legal easier instead of banning them completely.

"there is little apparent relationship between recent immigration and unemployment rates at the regional, state, or county level" - people are saying every job an Immigrant gets is a job lost for a Native American. The article shows how statistically areas with high amounts of immigrants have low amounts of unemployment. What I found surprising was that the majority of unemployed in this area are African Americans BECAUSE of their residential area, racial discrimination, and skill requirements.

The peak for Immigration in the United States was actually in 1907. Now the numbers are more stabilized. I found this surprising that the peak isn't now because I feel like immigration is a major issue in politics.

Most immigrants who were highly trained in working in the U.S., already employed by someone in the U.S, or who were joining close family who stayed in the U.S. were only allowed to stay in the U.S.

I found that interesting because I just didn't find that it wasn't fair for the ones didn't get there in time to know that because that would have gave the undocumented immigrants more time to look for jobs to be able to work in the U.S. It would also give the immigrants a chance to find a place of living and transportation.

The website says that Statistics show that immigrants are less likely to commit serious crimes or be behind bars than native-born people are, and high rates of immigration are associated with lower rates of violent crime and property crime. I found it surprising that people that are native born are most likely to commit a crime and that their crime rates never lowered.

Something I found interesting is that undocumented immigrants pay $13 billion in taxes, and pay $11.74 billion in state + local taxes per year. I think the amount of money immigrants pay as a whole was surprising for me because they pay for all different kinds of taxes just for the benefits they end up not getting because they are undocumented.

In the article it's said that "the demand for English instruction is greater than the services available in many parts of the country." Which means that there is a lot of encouragement for immigrants to learn to speak English. It's interesting because it shows how many have the chance to learn the language and that they're willing.

In the U.S. if the immigrant wasn't already working in the U.S., hired by a U.S. Employee, or already had family in the U.S. they weren't allowed to stay in the U.S. and they had to leave.

I found this interesting because it wasn't fair to the ones who didn't know because if they knew they would have had time to try and find a job opportunity. It would also have time for them to find a place to stay and find transportation.

In the article I learned that building a wall to stop undocumented immigrants from coming to the United States is useless. I know because in the text it stated that history has shown that people have always found ways to cross walls and borders by air and sea as well as land. this text shows that whatever you do to try to stop immigrants from crossing walls and borders it will not work. and also the most immigrants in the United States are from Mexico, but their estimated number 5.8 million in 2014 has declined by approximately 500,000 people since 2009. and in 2014, 5.8 million Mexican immigrants were living in the United States without authorization, down from 6.9 million in 2007.

the most surpising thing I learned from this article was the amount of immigrants there were in the united states.

Most people think they are just here because they sneak in without knowing the background most people come to the United States with permission from the government to come in and be here, and adding to that there is a %44 of Hispanics in the US who have the right to be here just like the rest of us, and not just because they were born here but because they have the legal documentation that says they have the right to be here like a VISA, GREEN CARD, RESIDENCY. Fun fact is that the word ALIEN is on the document which is the term they used to refer to them. I think that its wrong that people love to talk down on these people for who they are and where they come from without knowing their background and the details to their reason of coming to the U.S seeking a better life.

This shows that President Donald Trump in March 2017, blocked the entry of citizens from six Muslim-majority countries for 90 days, ostensibly to protect Americans from terrorism. Implying that barring Muslims from entry would protect the United States from harm. However, between 1975 and 2015, no fatalities have been committed in the United States by foreign-born extremists from the countries covered by the executive order. According to Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration expert at the Cato Institute, “[Between 1975 and 2015], the annual chance of being murdered by somebody other than a foreign-born terrorist was 252.9 times greater than the chance of dying in a terrorist attack committed by a foreign-born terrorist.”
