Lawang Sewu is a landmark of Semarang, Central Java. The name of Lawang Sewu is from Javanese, it means “Thousand Doors”. The name comes from its design, with numerous doors and arcs. The building has about 600 large windows. Although there are many doors at Lawang Sewu the name luckily does not actually mean there are a thousand doors. Lawang Sewu is on the east side of the Tugu Muda roundabout at the corner of Pandanaran Street and Pemuda Street in central Semarang.

Lawang Sewu is one of the old Dutch colonial buildings, built in 1904, it was used as a headquarters for the Nederlandsch Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij, the national raiway of the Dutch East Indies. Later during the Japanese occupation it was also used as a prison and was used by the Indonesian government after Indonesia's independence.

This building has a destinct typical Dutch style of architecture. The building consists of three floors and has two main wings: Building A and Buidling B. The building is equipped with a ballroom, basement, dining room and a theater. Inside the building you will find long hallways filled with doors and wooden windows on both sides. The distinct architecture is very suitable for photo shoots or pre wedding photos and you may find some lucky young couple here posing for their wedding pictures.

Underneath the building is the basement which is partly flooded to keep the building cool. The basement was used by the Japanese as a prison for the Dutch, some executions took place here too. When entering this area you will notice a kind of mystical atmosphere, with traces of the atrocities of the past still lingering in the air. Or is it just the dark, cold and damp atmosphere here that makes you shiver?

The very central location makes it easy to visit Sewu Lawang by local transport or taxi. If you are coming from out of town arriving at the train station, you can take any local bus heading for Tugu Muda, fee is 5,000 IDR.

The Amazon Rainforest, often called the “lungs of the Earth,” is the largest tropical rainforest in the world, covering around 5.5 million square kilometers across nine countries in South America, with the majority located in Brazil. It is home to an extraordinary variety of life, including millions of species of plants, animals, insects, and microorganisms, many of which cannot be found anywhere else on the planet. Towering trees, dense vegetation, and winding rivers, such as the mighty Amazon River, create a unique and complex ecosystem.

The Amazon plays a crucial role in regulating the global climate by absorbing vast amounts of carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. It also provides freshwater and influences weather patterns across the globe. Beyond its ecological importance, the Amazon is home to hundreds of Indigenous communities who have lived in harmony with the forest for centuries, preserving traditional knowledge and culture.

However, this natural treasure faces serious threats, including deforestation, illegal logging, mining, and climate change. Protecting the Amazon is not only vital for the survival of countless species and Indigenous peoples but also for maintaining the health of the Earth’s environment as a whole.

Mount Slamet rises dramatically from the central plains of Java as an imposing stratovolcano reaching about 3,428 meters (11,247 ft) above sea level. It is the highest peak in Central Java and one of the tallest volcanoes on the island, with a broad, forested base and multiple summit craters that give the mountain a rugged, powerful silhouette.

The slopes of Slamet are a patchwork of dense montane forest, terraced rice fields, and small villages. Wet air driven up the mountain creates frequent mist and heavy rainfall around its flanks, producing lush vegetation and a cool climate compared with the lowlands below. Hikers often find the weather changeable and the trails steep and demanding as they climb through changing vegetation zones toward the exposed, windy summit.

Historically active, Mount Slamet has produced eruptions and ash plumes recorded over the last centuries, with notable activity in 2009 and again in 2014. Because of its volcanic nature, authorities monitor seismic and gas activity closely, and local communities remain prepared for warnings during periods of unrest. Despite these risks, the mountain is beloved by climbers and nature lovers for its dramatic views, rich biodiversity, and the rewarding sense of remoteness at the top.

The Nile River is one of the most famous rivers in the world as well as the longest river with a length of about 6,650 km. It flows through eleven African countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Egypt, and empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

The Nile River is divided into two main branches: White Nile and Blue Nile. The White Nile originates from Lake Victoria which is in the territory of Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. The Blue Nile originates from Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The two rivers meet in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, then flow together as the Nile River to Egypt.

The role of the Nile River is enormous, especially for the Ancient Egyptian civilization. The river provided water for agricultural irrigation in the middle of a dry desert area, allowing the ancient Egyptians to grow wheat, barley, and various other crops. In addition, the Nile River was also an important transportation route and source of food through fishing. Because of this, ancient Egypt is often referred to as the "Gift of the Nile".
