This story is about three young, black men: Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt. They had to deal with racism and expectations of a bad future. All three of the men made a promise that they would graduate from college as doctors. They then receive a scholarship to Seton Hall University. The journey through college is filled with racism, obstacles and failure. They even considered quitting, but Carla Dickson, the guidance counselor, talks them out of quitting. After graduating from Seton Hall, they all then study to become doctors. The book ends with them passing and earning their medical degrees.
