Fashion is still distinguished in gender binary patterns. And so we see it here, the power suit we all know. Slowly but surely it has broke gender rules moving towards a much more open minded sense. Though, this particular suit we think of still is led by a masculinity stereotype. When women wear a suit it gives off 'Girl Boss' persona, the type of personality one cannot mess with. Yet, when she takes it off what happens to the type of dominance, the power, and the sexiness goes? Some can argue the power suit has no gender, yet the suit is geared towards mens' fashion. It's contradicting itself when a woman wants to feel power or a sense of leadership the suit comes into play, it means serious business.

Brands made by men for women. Victoria's Secret is one of the biggest lingerie company that caters towards all women. Roy Raymond founder of Victoria's Secret in 1977 created Victoria's Secret because he wanted a lingerie store to make men feel comfortable when shopping for lingerie. Ironic isn't it? A male needing the comfort to shop for women's lingerie... an undergarment for women where often times is private. Most of the times we fail to realize where these brands are coming from, and often times these companies continue to feed into the patriarchal system. Driving women the need to shop more as the stereotypical phrase "shopaholic" often times insulting a women. A system of which social structure and practices in which men dominate, oppress and exploit women.

Ah yes, the male gaze. It is the act of depicting women and the world, in the visual arts and in literature, from a masculine, heterosexual perspective that presents and represents women as sexual objects for the pleasure of the heterosexual male viewer.

Interactive Question:
Can you differentiate the Male Gaze vs. Female Gaze in these movies...

1.
