  • creates teamwork (social + communication skills), enjoyment and participation
  • develop tolerance and empathy (identify with characters and actions through role-play)
  • strengthens focusing skills (learn to listen, concentrate and understand)
  • strengthens critical thinking
  • there is a need of problem solving and reflection
  •  Ss are fully involved in learning with drama (body, mind, emotions are active)
  • use several of Garner’s multiple intelligences (visual-spatial, linguistic-verbal, interpersonal, intrapersonal, logical-mathematical, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, naturalistic)
  • develop a range of physical skills and techniques e.g. movement, body language, posture, gesture, coordination, facial expressions, eye contact, expression of mood etc. 
  • boost confidence (experience of success)
  • helps Ss to learn languages through exploring a new grammar item or reinforce vocabulary (drama activities use active teaching and learning styles likely to motivate and sustain attention)
  • puts language into context
