The ship came for the people to take to the new land. Karana and Ulape got on the ship but Karana couldn’t find Ramo.  The ship left without him.  Karana was scared and jumped overboard and swam back to the island.  She told Ramo when she found him that another ship would come get them.

I would have gone to get him.  The island has lots of food and shelter to survive on. One of the men told Karana that the ship her family was on sunk in the harbor.
