I think the grandmother reacted the way she did because of all the things going on in her life. She must be really stressed out and very sad that her daughter has to go to the hospital for all these treatments not knowing if she will be okay. Conor/Monster ended up beating Harry up and teaching him a lesson.  Each tale connects to all Conor's experiences.In the first story he learns about the queen and prince and it shows him that in some stories no one is the bad guy or both people can be the bad guys. In the second story with the Apothecary and the Parson it relates to Conor because his dad only came when his mom was sick and to help Conor out a little bit. In the third tale it relates/connects with Conor because Conor was the one who was fighting. When I read the book I expected the mom to be more rough, she didn't look like she was fighting chemo anymore. In the film she looked almost normal, it seemed like she just had a bad cough and didn't even have chemo. I would recast her because I imagined her to seem weaker and not look that young. I would also add some scenes like when the mom threw up before she went back to the hospital. I would have added this because it would show everyone that she was very sick. In the beginning she also still had hair, I thought that she would be bald and wearing some type of scarf around her head.
