She is looking forward to her thirteenth birthday in the first part of the book because when people in her family turn thirteen, they get something called a savvy, which is a special power. Mibs is also a white girl and she feels very useless because he father is in the hospital and she's not able to see him. I feel like Mibs is a really caring person because she's trying to do everything she can in order to see her father and help him out.
