Verity remembers getting to blow Mr Doak’s whistle at break.

I remember:

A group of us created a book club, which took place once a week at lunch time in the enclave outside the Headmaster’s office. Pupils brought in books and we would give them fifty percent of the price we sold them for. It was a great entrepreneurial experience - keeping stocks, keeping accounts. It also meant that we got to stay in at break times and price up the books, as well as getting an extended lunch break on the day of the sale.

Also - dancing to the music of Peer Gynt, The Hall of the Mountain King, when Mrs Gudmunsen was our PE teacher.

Being able to choose any instrument to play and take it home to practice. I had an Eflat horn to begin with, then a French horn.

Helping at the regular jumble sales to raise money. (And Mrs Lennox always wearing bright pink rubber gloves).

Mrs Munro playing the guitar in the classroom whilst we all sang along.

Mrs Munro running the Gymnastics club, where we all took the BAGA exams. She also took us on a trip to Meadowbank in Edinburgh, to watch gymnastics there.

Being told that Willie Robertson was the fastest runner in the world once whilst we were watching him run a race - and believing it for at least another 4 or 5 years 😂😂

P3 Mrs Paxton, P4 Miss Mairs, P5 Mrs Lennox P6 Mrs Collins then Mrs Cross asn Mrs Collins went on maternity leave and P7 Mrs Bain. Mr Welsh once cut a huge piece of loose skin offthe palm of my hand with his stanley knife then gave me a lolly for being brave 😆. Mrs Cowie was the secretary and Mr Doak the janitor would let you blow the whistle. The P7s took it in turn to collect the milk bottles and deliver them to the classes. I was absolutely gutted the day I left and asked Mrs Bain if I could stay another year!

My teachers were p1 and 2 Mrs Steven. Primary 3 Mrs paxton. P4 miss mairs. Irony was I aye wanted to play for low port football team yet played against them. I actually did score an own goal in 1980 giving low port the lead in a match. It was a strange feeling lining up against my best pal les Pattison. We are still best pals. Nearly 55 years. Joe Welsh was our head teacher. Brylcream hair and brown suit. Mrs crabtree our pe teacher. Sure her daughter was nicola.

Judith Cumming was gala queen in 1981 and I was chuffed for her. It's good to see old chums on the passing. We all turned out no bad.
