However, its condition makes it so that something about it seems off, leading us to feel uncomfortable, surprised, and/or frightened.

The BODIES exhibition in Las Vegas is an example that I think, fits with this, since the display of real human bodies resonates with us, as we are human, but that's where it ends. There is something eerie about viewing a corpse, that distinguishes them from a living human, so as a result, we may feel frightened because they are like us, yet they are not.

Depending on the environment one is in, those expectations could be that something is totally foreign or completely familiar. Then, when an element of familiarity or unfamiliarity is introduced that one wasn't expecting at all, it forces them to completely reevaluate what the expected as fundamental in the first place. 

My photo was taken at the McKinley Pier, one of my favorite spots back home. One time, I sat down to read with the normal of the Milwaukee skyline right in front of me. When I looked up from the book next, a thick fog had rolled in that blotted out almost everything in sight.
