In Week 5, we have been introduced to the knowledge on page design, the do's and the don't's and how to make a page readable and pleasing to the eye.

To test your understanding, you are required to find a story page in a local newspaper of 2017. Similar to the previous task, select one page that has more than one story. Take a picture and share on padlet what do you think about the page design. Is it good or bad? What would you suggest to make it more attractive?

Based on my view of the page design that I selected from New Straits Time, uses a tabloid grid which it has 5 column grids. The grid is made up vertical lines. In this news, are used pages without art. It is clean but weak design. Then, the butting headlines are used in this page design. It can provide a relieve out of a tedious page design.

For suggestion, the designer must highlight the font headline to differentiate the other story. And it would look better if the designer put picture to attract eyes readers.

First of all, the page design that have been used are tabloid grid, pages without art and modular page design. Based from the page design, I think the tabloid grid have 5 column grid. It make roughly half the size of broadsheet.
Besides that, the page also used pages without art. The story shapes in rectangles and also clean but weak design. It also not interesting design because there have only one photo. However, the news have butting headlines to provide a relieve out of a tedious page design. Moreover, it also has bastard column measures because one pages makes different grid, size and story.
Order than that, the modular page design which it has 4 modules page design. Overall, I think the page design is less attractive and lack of creativity. For suggestion to make it more interesting for sport pages do not make the story too long and put two or more photos. It also has 6 stories that made up of vertical and horizontal lines. In my opinion, the page design is good because the stories were organized neatly. They have added the boxing stories to separate one story and another. They also highlight the story which does not have a photo so that the news not been ignored by readers.

I think, to make it more attractive, the prioritize story must on the top of the page design with the biggest headline. I said this because this page have applied the rule of thumb. The design in this page contain at least one-third of art. The bastard column measure that have been created by the graphic designer make the story in this page looks neatly arranged. This is very helpful in order to make the story on this page look more effective and catch the eye of the readers. By freeing the story from the rigid page, it looks more pleasantly towards the readers. Next, this page grid refers to tabloid grid. It is roughly half the size of broadsheet. This newspaper considered as tabloid newspaper whick consists 5 column grids. This newspaper also have 2 stories in one page and have 4 pictures in 2 stories and that have dominant picture which is the biggest among the other. The stories are in modular page design. For conclusion i think the tabloid grid is easier to produce and can dominate a tabloid page more effectively than broadsheet. The tabloid grid is also quite popular in readers.

Apart from that, according to this particular page, the headline of the top news is the biggest and it is getting decreasing in size as the position of news going down. This actually denotes that the top story with bigger headline is one of the important news of the day. Besides, since the page is designated without art, the news is being emphasised through bastard measure, which gives different width to the column. Kosmo newspaper is a tabloid paper. The page I choose consist of 5 grid as usual tabloid grid. We can call this page design as a pages without art because it applies a basic design principles. The editor is playing with headline sizing which the top story is using the biggest headline. The page also designed with butting headlines and the editor is using a boxing stories to differentiate between different stories. This page also using a bastard column measures as we can see in the coloured story. This page design cover 3 stories with mugshot and rectangle photo. Moreover, this page also used pages without art design which is applying basic design principles: story placement that the strongest story goes on top. The headline sizing shown that lead story have the biggest headline then goes smaller as the story move down the page.

Hence, for me this page design pleasant the eye of readers because clearly the story arranged nicely.

Next, we can see also one of the news in this page was using boxing stories that are blue colour as the background. This boxing stories gives a visual emphasis that are the way telling the reader this story is different the others or special.

The news in this page also consist pages without art that are rule of thumb which is make every page at least one-third art.

Overall, this page design quite interesting for me because the news was arranged nicely and clearly and also look good to attract reader’s attention.

Based on what i learn from topic page design in lecture, for this picture of news have a good design. My newspaper is a broadsheets. In this design, mostly broadsheet grid use about 6 column that have a lot of story in a sheet. The newspaper that i was given have 5 story and contain page without art (butting headlines). To looks the pages with art, there are also have vary shapes and size. This newspaper is consist of a 7-column grid and appropriate format as a common of tabloid. It is also has a design with art and adding with colours in design at the picture. It is really follow the balance and scatter of the art.The main of the topic from a top is clearly to read directly through the title is “pengalaman terburuk saya”. Designer gives a visual emphasis to telling the reader about the story is different .The designer put all story into a rectangle shapes and sizes. Hence, it is emphasize of the topic according to sequence of the best stories. Besides, the modular page design creates the rectangle units of it. Overall of a view, it is quite nice design and attractive to read.

So we can see it just rectangular units with same grids.
