"I can't put into words how I really feel at this moment. It's awful. Unacceptable for a policewoman, as well as for a human being. A part of me is so, so happy that Jenny Nguyen is gone from this world. Yes, right now I am relieved that she is dead" (237).

It shows both sides of Ellie. It is the culmination of her being a policewoman and a girlfriend. it really shows that the two things aren't separate, and that even the best police officer can't separate their personal and professional lives. We especially see this with Jenny throughout the book, because her personal and professional life are so intertwined.

This quote shows the difference in the way that Ellie thinks in her personal and professional life. It strengthens the idea that Ellie is able to put away her police responsibilities and react and think as a human being.

Is Ellie losing her inner fortitude? This line makes me wonder about that. She has spent so much of the book trying to prove herself, trying to go above and beyond. Is she now realizing the limitations of being only a "bike cop"? And, if so, is she limiting herself or is the CJS and her role in it holding her back?

Ellie is fighting with pretty much everyone now; Aunt Cheryl, Benjamin, and herself. She starts to lose trust for a lot of people and even questions if she should continue the Jenny Nguyen case. We see a lot of work vs personal life here.

This quote is not only a depiction of how gruesome the media can be, but also Ellie's relationship to the case. It is an insensitive aspect due to the fact that the "girl soaked in blood" is still a human being, and she does in fact have a family that cares about her, and she is not a monster.

I think that a lot of people in relationships, even those who haven’t been cheated on, can resonate with Ellie’s feelings. It’s her natural human response that can’t be overcome. But with that being said, it is pretty messed up and unacceptable of a cop working on a case, to be thinking that way.
