The Puritans left their homes because they were forced to leave England and Europe. They were all prosecuted for their religious beliefs, and they arrived in the Americas with new new ideas of creating a new society, with the ideal of freedom. These people were named the puritans because their goal was to "purify" religion and politics of corruption. In 1682, the puritans formed a New England Company. The king of England had given them a charter for a settlement, along Massachusetts Bay. The first group of puritans were led by John Endecott, in which they began the settlement of Salem. In the 17th century, their expectations to living their lives was that they always had to follow God's plan, and attend church every Sunday in which was mandatory. Every new day would start dawn and end at dusk, so their lives would  be simple and peaceful.

In return they would only give him their loyalty.

These trials all began in the spring of 1692, where a group of girls have been possessed by the devil. People all over the village were getting a sense that local women have been claimed to be in the use of with craft. Those who were to use or were to be maybe known to be around witchcraft, were to be executed by being hanged in front of everyone. He had envisioned the colony in present day Boston as a "city upon a hill," in which puritans would spread religious righteousness throughout the world.
-Thomas Hooker a Puritan minister who led about 100 settlers out of Massachusetts Bay to Connecticut because he believed that the governor and other officials had too much power. He wanted to set up a colony in Connecticut with strict limits on government.
