The island is special to the boys to be able to survive. At first, the island is seen as a nurturing place where the children explore the beautiful scenery, and then it progresses to become a battlefield for the children. Some see it, like Jack, as a place to be in charge and as a new home. Ralph significance to the island is prominently shown when he tries to keep a fire going and trying maintaining tranquility. He desperately tries to continue to gather the tribe but unsuccessful accomplishes his action. And instead, the boys from the tribe try to kill each other and set the island of on fire.

One important scene on the island was when as they are exploring Jack grabbed a pig and was about to kill it with his knife but let it go because of the boy's innocence to drawing blood. They couldn't stand killing another living organism because they had just arrived on the island as civilized people. This is significant because there is a great difference in the behavior of the boys in the beginning of the novel and towards the end of the novel. They become savages who don't have human feeling towards innocent deaths. Another important scene on the island was when Roger dropped the boulder on Piggy causing him to die for no reason. This is significant because order has fallen on the island and no one is doing an attempt to be rescued. The reader understands that no one in their right mind would drop a boulder on an innocent boy but due to their isolation from order, Roger has lost his civilized behavior. The last important scene was when Ralph runs for his life through the forest because he is wanted dead and sees the man in a uniform on the sand. There is a difference between the condition of the boys on the island and the civilized man. This helps the reader get a picture of Ralph as filthy, cut, bruised, and dirty compared to the clean, armed (symbol of order), and dressed. This is important because the boys had been on the island for a long period of time and their minds had turned to that of an animal's.

The island represents the ideal, civilized society that the boys attempt to build because of its flawless, natural features. When the island burned, it symbolizes how the society failed to come together. This reveals how the island gradually became deteriorated because of the boys' inefficient use of the natural resources relates to how they did not use their leadership wisely.

Throughout the novel, the island is described in various ways. To begin, Golding states "It was clear to the bottom and bright with the efflorescence of tropical weed and coral" (Golding 12). Golding displays how the island is blooming, thus demonstrating peace on the island. Furthermore, words such as "bright" and "efflorescence" exhibits how the island is depicted in a beautiful way in which nature makes its presence. Withal, the island starts off as a pleasant place for the children to inhabit. In the middle of the novel, the island still displays its natural beauties to the children. For instance, Golding states "Beyond the screen of leaves the sunlight pelted down and the butterflies danced in the middle of their unending dance" (Golding 132). In the quote, Golding uses figurative language to show readers how there is tranquility in the island as butterflies are able to "dance" freely. In addition, the quote exhibits how there is a ray of sunshine shining onto the butterflies, which creates a spotlight on natures creatures. Furthermore, the use of figurative language helps further develop the allusion that the island is welcoming the children. However, at the end of the novel, the island is in ruins. For example, Golding writes "He could hear them crashing in the undergrowth and on the left was the hot, bright thunder of the fire" (Golding 199-200). The quote exhibits how the island is on fire, thus creating a symbolic message. The island on fire displays how there is chaos on the island, which is a result of the hunters turning into savages. Withal, the island turned civilized children into savages who want to kill for the sport rather than for protection against danger.

In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding indicates how having the power to rule gave one a superior title. To the reader the island was seen as a place for the boys to survive however the boys saw it as a kingdom, and who ever claimed it with great power was chief. For example when Ralph and Jack went their own ways after their fight, Jack ruled part of the island as a dictator to be seen as powerful than Ralph. This shows connotation associated with the island using power as a negative title.

Throughout the novel the boys find different ways to use the island as their main resource in order to survive as they are stranded all alone with no adults. For example, “ There’s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire.”(Golding 38). This quote demonstrates how the boys are using the mountains in the island to start a fire to signal that they are stranded. This reveals how the boys are taking full advantage of the island to create resources that will help them survive as it is their only hope. Another example is , “All the same you need an army-for hunting. Hunting pigs-‘ ‘Yes. There are pigs on the island.’ All three of them tried to convey the sense of the pink live thing struggling in the creepers”(32). This shows how the boys are hunting around the island as they are eager to find food to eat. In this case Ralph states how there are pigs on the island which will be their main focus for food. The purpose of the island was a place that connected and destroyed relationships between the boys as well as they were seen to rely on the island as their home until they were rescued.

When they boys recuperate from the plane crash, they explore the island and find out the freedom of this new world. When Ralph calls in the assembly using the conch, the boys figure out that there are no adults on the island so they become excited of their isolation from adults. They take off their clothes and jump in the water. Others are busy eating the fruit from trees and take no notice of how they are going to sleep in the night. Ralph and Piggy bring the boys back to reality that the island is not a vacation time but a dangerous place to be without the proper work done. Later in the novel Jack did as he pleased because there was now no order on the island and could execute anyone he wanted to.

One of the island’s prominent features is the scar that tears across the jungle, which is the the destruction made by the airplane’s crash landing. Another significant detail of the island is the beach because it was where Ralph and Piggy found the conch shell. The highest spot on the island, which is the mountain, is another distinctive feature on the island since it served as the place where signal fire was held.
