I like that when they have new staff they "cycle" back thru their commitments so even the new staff has the common language, knowledge and expectations. Otherwise, it seems as tho' IPS is headed in the same direction as MCES by having intentional PD and believing all students can achieve.

There is always room for improvement, but I have thought through and planned every minute of the day, our team has planned together and agreed on essential learning, and committed to teach the same thing at the same time. Students could move from classroom to classroom without missing a beat, which is more than we could ever say before.

I feel we are all very dedicated to the success of our students and that is why we are educators. Working together as teams to make lesson plans is a great idea so everyone is teaching the same material across the grade for consistency. Like the school in the article we also are working on common language, common knowledge, and common expectations. This is what is best for the success of our students. The article also talked about how students benefit from having guaranteed and viable curriculum that is more consistent from classroom to classroom. I look forward to seeing the benefits of this for our students. I also feel our objectives are the same as theirs when they talked about delivering timely and targeted support as soon as students show any signs of difficulty.

A theme that I heard in this article is that instruction is deliberate and intentional. Teams collaborate and analyze data which guides instructional strategies. This school operates with a sense of urgency in that they don't wait for students to fail, but instead work to close gaps with daily interventions and differentiated instruction. Demographics is not used as an excuse.

Reading about this school's journey to student achievement success is inspiring and encouraging! If they can have success with all students, then so can we. It is obvious that this entire school community is working as a team and their mission is clear. IPS is on the same path with many of the components in place that Mason Crest has in place. We also have a clear mission, PLC teams, guaranteed curriculum, essential standards identified, daily intervention in small groups and effective core instruction. This is an exceptional story!

IPS is very similar to the school in the article in the fact that we have the best staff that is willing to do whatever it takes to help students learn. We collaborate well by having team meetings once a week. We also plan our lessons and do unit reflections to make sure that we are all doing the same things in all grade level classrooms. We are always attending PLC conferences to educate ourselves on the best practices and to make sure that we are doing the best for students and ourselves.

Inman does a great job of taking a positive approach to new, and difficult situations. We are intentional about recognizing small and large celebrations and we expect all of our students to succeed. We don't make excuses when they don't. Instead, we analyze who and why they didn't and what we can do to change that for next time. We work together as a team and school to support struggling students and to help each other stay on track with the new curriculum. This year, teams plan together (content teachers), but specials schedules do not allow for team meetings. We do a good job of incorporating both support teachers and classroom teachers in PD on core curriculum. It is very important that all staff have at least a basic understanding of what kids are expected to do because if we don't we can't support kids building-wide with a common language, common goals, and guaranteed and viable curriculum. When we work together we are stronger and more effective, and I think I have seen a large growth in that area this year as a building. :)
