The two nation theory was developed in order to protect and preserve the islamic culture of the muslims of the sub-continent. A major reason was the proposal of hindi as the court language by replacing urdu.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was the first to say that Muslims and Hindus were two different nations living in the subcontinent. In 1867, the Urdu-Hindi controversy happened when Hindus wanted to replace Urdu with Hindi in courts, which shocked Sir Syed. When the Congress was formed in 1885, he saw it would help the Hindu majority in elections, hurting the Muslim minority. He understood that Muslims and Hindus had different religions and ways of life, so they couldn't come together. Because of his ideas and contributions, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was called the 'Father of the Pakistan Movement.'

The Two-Nation Theory:

The Two-Nation Theory came from his belief that Muslims and Hindus were not just different religious groups but also had their own cultural, social, and political identities. Sir Syed saw that the power of the Hindu majority could threaten Muslim rights. This made him argue that Muslims needed their own political representation, which helped lead to the demand for Pakistan.

Sir Syed founded a modern madrassa in Muradabad in 1859; this was one of the first religious schools to impart scientific education. Sir Syed also worked on social causes, helping to organise relief for the famine-struck people of North-West Province in 1860.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was a notable muslim reformer, educator, and philosopher.In 1838, at the age of 21, he started working for the East India Company, beginninghis career in the British Government of India.His famous book Asar Al Sanadeed was a description and evolution of the historical monuments of Delhi.Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was the first person who brought the idea of 'two nation theory'.Muslims and Hindus lived together in the subcontinent.In 1867, there arose an Urdu-Hindi controversy.Hindus insisted on replacing Urdu with Hindi as the language of the courts and administration.This reaction of the Hindus towards Urdu shocked Sir Syed.Secondly when Congress came into being in 1885, Sir Syed recognised that this party would favour parliamentary government through elections.
