The movie's music was based on a sad impression, like a sad sound played on a piano. The character also were very sad but at 1 to 2 moments they were very happy like the starting and ending.
At the beginning of the film the kid was happy because he thought his father had come back because if the umbrella and then in the ending when the kids grows up he open a umbrella shop and then he sees his father with the same umbrella and then when he falls down his father disappears.

Q1.
setting: since the short movie was set in an orphanage, it made the audience feel sad and pity the children in the video.

music: since there was the use of rain and violin, they are often associated with sadness which created a sense of empathy in the minds of the audience.

characters: the characters were empathetic towards one another - the little girl gave the little boy her umbrella after listening to his connection with it. The little boy is an immigrant (a refugee) who was left in the orphanage by his father - the initial judgement of the character changes after knowing his background.

Q2.
the umbrella remained constant throughout the film, people were willing to give away something that was so precious to them (the little girl gave it to the little boy, the old man gave it to a little girl). This was a symbol of kindness, it also represents a sense of transformation.

Q3.
identities and relationship: the umbrella reminded the little boy of his father who was also a refugee and had to leave his son in an orphanage. It also showcases the strength of a father and son relationship - the little boy could not forget his father even years after being left in the orphanage. There are a lot of generations portrayed in the short film.

In the beginning, not a lot is known about the identities of the characters (their background) but eventually the flashback tells the audience about the relationship that the umbrella has with the little boy's identity. Through the boy's identity we understand his relationship not only to his father but also the yellow umbrella in general and why he's so fixated to it. He eventually gives it up.

The movie shows the faults of greed, because the father chooses the TV over the hedgehog. The father shows us not to make decisions without thinking. The son doesn’t overreact and stays calm even realizing he will have to give up the hedgehog. Shows how the son manages his emotions better than his father, the son is more emotionally intelligent. The movie shows how sometimes simpler things in life give us more happiness and how kids are better equipped to understand these simple things.

Question 1

A1. The elements of this film that impacted me were the
Setting - The setting of the orphanage was not directly revealed in the beginning and the boy spent most of his time in the dark gloomy attic
Characters - The boy, the visitors and the mother all played a crucial role in establishing the emotional connection in the film
Flashback - This was the climax of the film and revealed the purpose why the boy stole the yellow umbrella. This stylistic technique helps shows his past and creates a sense of empathy in the viewers.
Music - Throughout the whole film, the music was relatively soft but when the main scenes were taking place, the music was softer and more sombre creating a serious emotional tone and mood

Question 2
A2. In the beginning and the ending, we see that the umbrella is a fixed object. People were slightly hesitant to give it up at first but eventually they were happy to oblige and give it to someone who could use it better and for a longer time. We also see that the girl who came to visit the home, is also present in the ending when the boy becomes old and when he falls as she helps lift him up and takes him back to his shop.

Question 3
A3. The global context I would link the movie to is Identities and Relationships. Here in the movie we see the changes in the relationship of the boy and his father when they were refugees and the hardships they faced like hunger and poverty. We see how the identity of the father lies in a yellow umbrella as that is one way that the boy remembers his father.
