My result for the first Holland Career test is SIA. SIA stands for social investigative artistic. The most common occupation that matched my score was a teacher. The special education teacher matched it perfectly but the architect and English language arts teacher was followed after that. I also received a music therapist as a strong recommendation. My results for the second test were almost identical but the A was before the I. I would have never thought social would be my highest because I am an introvert. The second test gave similar careers as recommendations. My suggested careers were music therapist, English language arts teacher, and education teacher. I plan on becoming a dermatologist physical assistant which is nowhere near the careers my test suggested. My two dream jobs as a kid were being an architect and a teacher. I was dead set on them so it's fun to see my inner child coming out as I was taking the tests. I was surprised at my results I would've expected something less artistic as a job. I thoroughly enjoyed taking these and seeing my results.

I experience flow while reading a great book!

I feel “flow” the most when reading a captivating book. An experience I vividly remember where I felt the flow was last semester after taking my last math exam. My favorite book series dropped the newest book on the week of my exam. I decided to do the mature thing and put off reading it because knowing myself I would completely disregard my studies for a good book. During that time I was cramming and studying endlessly relearning everything to ensure I did well on the exam. 24/7 all I did was study, and it paid off. When I got home after the exam I curled up in my bed with a cozy blanket, a delicious iced matcha latte, and the long-awaited book. I opened up all my windows and turned off all overhead lighting casting the room with a beautiful and warm atmosphere from the sun. I played my favorite calm reading playlist and got lost for hours. The book was 1,000 pages and I read it in one sitting. I was so lost in the world and characters, page after page uncovering more of the story. As I read, each sentence drew me in and pulled me deeper into the story. Getting caught up on the lives of all my favorite characters after a year was so fun. I felt like I was in the world with them. It was a surreal experience, that put me in a “flow” state.

Staying healthy is important to be able to grow old with someone!

In Chapter 13’s introduction section, Susan and Carl's story stuck out to me. Growing old and retiring with someone is such a beautiful thing. Looking forward to this all your life and finally getting a taste of it, but having it ripped away so soon. They only had 8 years together to enjoy before Carl’s death. Carl was young-old, which makes you wonder if he had taken care of his health earlier would he have lived longer? While aging has a mostly negative perception in my eyes, the one thing I look forward to is growing old with someone. I can’t wait to travel the world without a care. This story made me think about my very own future. I would like to start slowly implementing healthier habits in my life. While aging is inevitable, building healthy habits is crucial to living a long healthy life. Sensorimeter changes talked about in chapter 14, section 14.2 are a big part of aging. I have near-sighted eyesight. Every time I go for my yearly check-up, my optometrist tells me my eyesight is getting worse, and my lens has to be updated. There are many aspects to aging, some you can prevent, some you can’t.

My real age was accurate!

Wow! The real age calculator was pretty close with their guess which was 17 years and 3 months. I am 17 years and 6 months but I am impressed by how close their guess was. I answered as accurately as I could. One thing I learned is I need to better manage my sleep schedule to get more rest. I sleep about 6 hours a day which is something I need to work on. I don’t smoke or drink so that is great for my health and is keeping me healthy. I also need to eat more fish, which I hate. Not sure I’ll implement that one at all. The only seafood I love is sushi! Looking at the things I need to improve on is really eye-opening. I will definitely start implementing healthier habits. This real-age calculator was a great way to set me on the right track! I’m stoked I’m older than my real age score even if it is only by three months!

Living to 88!

My life expectancy is 88 years! Woo-hoo!! My grandparents have only lived to 65 and 70. I doubt I’ll actually reach that age but I’m hopeful. There are multiple things I learned from doing this test. I learned that I should probably take better care of my health if I want to reach that age. 88 years is a long time to be alive. According to my real age calculator score, I have 71 years left to live. I will hopefully make the most of it and achieve all my goals! Additionally, I realized I have to track my health better. I haven't been to the doctor in a very long time so I didn't have an answer to a lot of the health-related questions. Keeping on track with your health is the way to ensure you live a long healthy life. You know what the saying is, health is wealth!! And I couldn’t agree more with that saying!

There are many different life stages one experiences from infancy to old-old. I think every life stage is special and has its pros. After carefully considering all of them, I came to the decision that emerging adulthood is the best. There are a couple of reasons why I believe so. I think emerging adulthood is where people are given the chance to make mistakes and learn from them. During emerging adulthood, a new sense of freedom is given. Legally yes, but also other aspects of life. You are given the freedom to choose college or not, what to major in, join the military, where to live, work, and more! After you turn 18, you are given complete control of your life and I think that's one of the best and most important parts of life. Chapter 10 in the textbook, “Experiencing the Lifespan” by Janet Belsky, talks about the three parts of emerging adulthood which are constructing an identity, finding a career, and finding love. All three of these are the most important aspects of someone's life! While everything may seem new and anxiety-inducing at first, there's no better feeling than knowing that you're responsible for yourself. Any decision you make will be entirely yours!

I LOVED taking this class this semester. Mrs. B has to be the friendliest, sweetest, most positive professor I have ever taken. This is my second year at HFC and she has been my all-time favorite teacher. I was particularly nervous about taking my oral exam, leading up to it I was an anxious mess. As soon as I joined Zoom, Mrs. B made me feel comfortable, the whole experience was a breeze. It didn’t even feel like I was taking an exam, it felt like a conversation between friends. There's nothing I can think to critique about this class, she responded to emails quickly and nicely and was very thorough with directions. If I can take another class with her I would. I would recommend this class to anyone who needs it. If it was the other way around and we were grading her, she would definitely get an A+ from me! Best professor ever!!
