Earlier this month, TV station WBNG-TV, a CBS affiliated station, owned by Clark Associates Inc. began broadcasting in the Birmingham, New York area. This is yet another large broadcasting station for the area. The stations broadcasting area is not restricted solely to the Birmingham area in New York. It also broadcasts to Southern Upstate New York and Northern parts of Pennsylvania. This station beginning to broadcast these areas is a major boost to the Federal Communication Commission's campaign to spread, and allocate TV stations. At the time of the launch, the station will only run four programs on the channel.

To whom it may concern,

I've been having so many issues lately. First, I got kicked out of school, and I had to hide out in New York before Christmas so that my parents didn't find out that I got kicked out. I'm sure they'd be pretty damn mad. Getting kicked out of school wasn't the worst thing that has happened though. I went to a club not too long ago, and I met these three girls. They were awfully rude to me, ignoring everything I said to them, just going about their business without a care in the world. Then you have my old crush, Jane, who just started going out with my roommate. That made me pretty depressed. The school issues are the worst though. I'm not sure what my parents will say when I tell them or what exactly to tell them. I don't want to tell them that I flunked out, maybe I'll make up some lie for them so it doesn't seem as bad. Being honest, I'm scared to tell them, but at the same time I'm not really scared. I don't know what they'll say... don't know if they'll be surprised, disappointed, angry, or what their emotions will be like.

Sincerely,
Holden Caulfield

---

Dear Holden,

Your father and I feel so bad that you feel this way about yourself. We hate that you're going through all of this in your life. Maybe you should try to get some help, and maybe you'll stop feeling this way. I doubt that you're the only one feeling this way, and just know that you're not alone in this situation. I think you should try to explain how you feel about seeing phonies everywhere you go. You can always try to put yourself out there more and try to interact with more people around you. Remove the phonies from your life, and continue to find new people that maybe aren't so phony. My advice is to try to get some help, and find new, supportive people in your life.

Sincerely,
Mom

Interviewer: How do you feel about Holden being kicked out of Pencey?
Phoebe: I don't what to say I'm disappointed. I think that Holden wasn't able to be himself at this school, which is the reason why he was kicked out of the school.

Interviewer: Do you think that Holden will do better in his new school?

Phoebe: I'm hopeful that he will be able to do better in his new school. He is trying to be more open about his feelings and getting help he deserves.

Interviewer: What were your
feelings when Holden came home early?
Phoebe: I was happy of course. But I realized quickly the reason he came back so early was because he was kicked out of school. Like I said before I don't what to say I was disappointed but I wan't happy either.

Question 1: If Allie wouldn't have died, do you think Holden still would've gotten kicked out of Pencey? Do you think he would've found out where he truly belongs.

Answer 1: Holden would have been very different. I think that Allie's death is the reason why he acts like the way he is now. Without his death he might have been a "normal" student and lived a more happy life then he is now.

Question 2: Do you think Jane is a real person in the story? Why or why not?

Answer: I do think that Jane is an actual character, but at the same time I think that Holden may have exaggerated with some of the descriptions that he gave about her. Similar to his accounts of other characters, I don't think that Holden's judgement or characterization is accurate.

Holden's Red Hunting Hat
Answer 1: “Anyway, I put on my new hat and sat down and started reading that book Out of Africa.” (Salinger 22) Holden is more comfortable doing things he enjoys when he is wearing the hat. He is able to act more like himself with the hat on.

Answer 2: "Then I took my red hunting hat out of my coat pocket and gave it to her. She likes those crazy hats." (Salinger 199) Holden giving his hat to her at this point in the novel is because he realizes he has to move on and he accepts that he can't hold on to his childhood forever and that Phoebe is the one who should enjoy the moments of her childhood while they still last.
