MAN, let me tell you how it is, LIVING in a a trench for the next few years. IT SUCKS. There would be a numerous amount of deaths in one single day. There are a HUGE amount of infected animals as in rats, frogs, lice and worse! Having to walk around or even on top of the dead soldiers is just glorifying and disgusting. Even the smell it leaves behind is RANCID! Did you know that rats can produce up to 900 offspring a year. They wanted me to go out to the "No Mans Land" and add some barb wire. I was like, your joking right, you want me to go out and risk my self of being shot by and enemy. Our general said "YES." So i went out there and did what i could before i heard gunshots fill up the silence. what about sleeping crammed up in a little bunker. Its hard to get around. You met many fantastic people, but its pointless when they die; thats why me general told me we shouldn't make friends here. the wepon i only had was poison gas. it wasnt that great, somtimes i would aciddently 🤬 my own soilders and i would feel terrible! but mistakes arent jokes here. i was lectured and had to go back to traing on how and when to throw a poison gas grenade.

Living in the trench sucks. I'm so over all of it. Deaths on the daily? Rat infestation? Frogs all over? Well that's living in the trench for you. I have seen many men die on their first day of living in these trenches. People are also dying randomly. They could just be lying down in the trench then all of a sudden, BAM, he's dead. But let me tell you about these rats.... They are TERRIBLE. There are two main types of rats, the brown rats and that black rats. Both are just disgusting, but the brown rat was especially feared upon. They gorge themselves onto human remains, eat anything and everything they could. OH but these frogs! You could find them anywhere. They are found in shell holes and in the base of the trenches.
There is one good thing that's going on. These grenades that we just got. Ya, they might be dangerous and could explode in your hands before you throw it, but its fine because the grenades can help us make the trenches without doing much work at all.

So this is what I was meant to be in life a pawn in a ugly 🤬 war that's supposed to fight for my country.
I think back in my life and wonder what went wrong. My life is eating garbage and watching people die on the daily. We carry over 3 bodies a day to the so called graveyard we have created to put these brave men to rest. The rats already got into our food supply but we have nothing else to eat. The rats are annoying as ever. Don't even get me started about the amount of lice and diseases have been spreading in this god forsaking place. These lice are spreading trench fever like a wildfire. I've lost more people I know to trench fever and diseases rather than while fighting the enemy. The only good thing about my life right now is playing with the new equipment that the army created on the daily, they call it a grenade it explodes into pieces of shrapnel that shred into the people I throw it at. It is a spectacular invention.

Man, my life sucks. I am so tired of living in the Trenches. One of the things I hate most is the rat infestation! There are 2 types of rats, brown and black. Anytime a soldier fell, the black rats would gorge themselves on the remains. Disgusting, I know. At night, when we're exhausted laying in the trenches they would just run across our faces. Now, frogs ad lice was even worse. Our heads would get infested with lice and caused Trench Fever which was PAINFUL!!!! The fevers we got were unexplainable. Frogs were mainly in the shell holes in water. Since it was always muddy and cold we got Trench Foot. It was a fungal infection that could turn gangrenous and result in amputation. Now.... the smell.... let me tell you about how HORRIBLE it stunk. Imagine 200,000 men rotting all around you and the smell their body is giving off. There was men who had not been showering and gave the WORST odor of dried sweat....it was disgusting. Poison gas and the stagnant mud was dreadful. The only interesting thing in my opinion has to be the new weapons they provided to us. My favorite weapon to use is the machine gun which became so dominate and was the key necessity to World War 1. They allowed you to 🤬 enemies on an assembly line, plus they weren't even heavy so we had less weigh on our back.

I'm a worker in the Trenches and life is miserable. Everday is the same routine, we begin by having breakfast and we are watched over by the commanders. I attend to the trenches to repeat my daily chores of pumping out the water so that the life in the trenches was not as miserable and so nobody was a risk of the walls collapsing. it was boring. we were restricted to do many things during the day as snipers were pointed as us so we did nothing out of line. Our only free time was at night but that is also the only time we could get our sleep, if we got any sleep. All night rats infested with disease were running along our faces and the floors. I attempt to keep them away from me but they are constantly growing to the size of cats and more and more come everyday. Today my group was introduced to a new weapon, Poison Gas, it scary due to the fact that you cant see it once its released. which is good for attack on the enemies but their is always the fear of it coming back at us with the strong winds. It is a constant scare in the Trenches but I have to take it one day at a time.

The rum is so little that even our friends and allies all of us have to fight. On top of all that fighting over our own demands the small of the whole battlefield is nauseating to everyone even the butchers who work around meat all day. With the smell the boredom and the senseless fighting over our only relief system (Rum) this war is already on its way to history as something to remember that we shouldn't let war get this far on, instead start one the instantly finish it. And with the grenade it will be over soon. hopefully at least.

Life here in the midst of battle is filled to the brim with bodies from the daily death toll. This cycle repeating itself constantly over and over and... This kind of life is one no man should face, but here I am, here we all are in the heat of battle; In a land no man should see.

The daily death in the trenches takes a heavy toll on our men, not only physically, mentally as well. Even when there's a break between attacks, places with constant fire create random deaths; heavy shellfire often leaves soldiers behind buried in the dust.

This never ending cycle were all put through every second of every day, a battalion would be expected to serve a spell in the front line. This would be followed by a stint spent in support, and then in reserve lines. A period of rest would follow, this cycle was fatale causing death to any who participated. However sitting in the trenches was no better, you'll be picked off anyway by the random shellfire.

No Mans Land, the names tells it all. The open field between trenches friend and foe. There its all hand to hand combat, Don't want to lose your rifles but you cant fire it either. The sound will attract eyes which leads to the machine guns blasting you down in seconds. Its dangerous but necessary, the people who fight out there do it to rebuild our defenses. A strong defense is an even strong offense.

I've been given a new rifle today, I believe it was someone's before me, most likely in the dirt now. The rifle is very accurate, good for long range. However the weight is tough to overcome making shots slow to reload. The bayonet is nice, close combat has a lot of casualties though. I think ill have to go to no mans land tomorrow. While rifles are good; not worth the cost of your life in the front lines.

The rats always run all over the place and on our faces when we're trying to sleep which is annoying because we never do that to them.
What honestly gets on my nerves though is how we have to do inspection and chores in the mornings... our sergeant always has a short temper, so there's never any room for error. The worst job is cleaning and repairing the trenches, they are always super muddy an get my favorite clothes dirty which sucks.
The most awkward part of the war is when you run into an enemy in no man's land. The best thing you can really do in this situation is to agree to both go your separate ways and not speak of it again.
I always use the flamethrower when I'm on the front line. It is common for the newbies to be killed first because they are always looking over the parapet. Many men are being killed because of the large shell-bursts. Even worse than the random deaths are the lice. I haven't stopped itching for the past two weeks. The nits were also getting to me, so I shaved my head. Many men I've grown close to have gotten trench foot because of the rotten trench conditions. By far the worst was The Smell. It was the smell of the dead men, the latrines, and the sweat of men on the battlefield. Yet, I haven't been able to tell the difference between the death from disease or from the poison gas hanging in the air.

I am a soldier living in the trenches of World War 1, and life is worse than I could have ever imagined. Between the constant shellfire and disease, troops were dying daily. Even worse, the bodies of the soldiers were left in the trenches to rot and add to the awful odor. Thousands of carcasses cover the battlefield or lay in shallow graves surrounding the trenches. Then, the soldiers that did not get "buried" would be scavenged by those disgusting rats (some grew to be the size of cats). All of us soldiers live everyday in fear, for we don't know which day will be our last. Not to mention the weapons that are supposed to help us advance in our war are proving to have many disadvantages. Poison gas is constantly lingering in the air and adding to the stench that comes from the trenches. That isn't even the worst part, though, cause it also ends up killing a lot of our own soldiers, adding to the death toll. Life has not been easy, and I don't think it will truly get better until this "Great" War is over and I am back home.

Life in the trenches is terrible. I am a solider named Bob and I would give anything to go back home. One thing that makes life so terrible is the rat infestation. There are million of rats here that contaminate the food. If that wasn't bad enough we also have frogs, lice, slugs, horned bees, ect. These animals are so unsanitary and they can cause diseases such as trench foot. All of these animals plus the dead bodies, dried sweat, mud, rotting sandbags and cigarette smoke lead to the trench smelling awful. At first I couldn't stand it but now I'm getting used to it. Poisonous gas also makes this lifestyle terrible. Sometimes you can throw the gas at somebody but if it is too windy it will blow back on you. This almost happened to me but I ran away just in time.

Life in the trenches is terrible. The smell of rotten soldiers is unbearable. We also all smell because many of us men have not bathed in weeks or even months. We are all also effected by trench fever which is caused by the infestation of lice. Our day to day life can be really boring. We all try to catch a nap whenever we can our try to bathe ourselves if we have the opportunity. we also try to read and write letters to our families back home. All I can hear in the distance is the explosions of the grenades going off. For once I would like to enjoy the pleasure of peace and quiet and not have to hear the explosions all the time.

Hello, fellow people I am living in the trenches right now with my poison gas, hoping that I can take down the enemies who are causing the everyday random deaths down here due to the shell fires from the enemies. This place is highly disgusting, there are many aspects of it that I do not like but I have to be here to fight. There is a rat infestation, and everywhere you look whether it is right, left, forward, or backwards all you will see are the rats. They feed off of the eyes and the livers of the millions of people who have died and are in search of people who will die causing them to become larger than or as large as a cat. There are also many frogs, lice, and more worse things. The lice are never ending and always seem to find ways to stick their eggs in the seems of our clothing, which hatch every time us men go into the warm, hot climate. Frogs and Nits were also an ongoing issue by the river and water, causing people to shave off their hair from their heads. Oh no! Someone is coming I must use my poison gas to take them out, I will write again later.

My name is Doug. I always saw millions of brown and black rats running around in the trenches. A lot of us feared the brown rats because they would eat human eyes and livers. They could grow to the size of a cat. We would try to 🤬 the rats with guns, a bayonet, and even clubbing them. Rats could produce up to 900 offspring per year so infection spread fast, contaminating food.
There is always snipers and look-outs so during the day we must stay hidden and we can only go out at night. whenever I can I try to get sleep but usually it would only be for a couple minutes before I was given another task.
The smell is horrible in the trenches. rotting bodies and animals were the main source of the smell, around 200,000 men were killed and their bodies were laid down in shallow graves and the smell was still able to get released. There are several men that haven't taken baths in weeks or even months provided a nasty smell of dried sweat. There also was the smell of poison gas, cigarette smoke, feet, chloride, and rotting sandbags.

Me and my friends are soldiers fighting in the world war 1, we live in the Trenches but let me tell you how awful it is on the first day we were there so many of my friends died because of the attacks of grenades being made to explode us. The death of soldiers kept on happening frequently it was horrifying. The thing I hated the most was the lice they never stop breeding so they kept getting into our clothes that it would make us itch all the time. Sometimes they would even cause us fevers that a few soldiers couldn't recover and died from that. The worse part was the smell the main reason why this happened was because 200,000 men were killed on the Somme battlefields and their bodies we're laid down in shallow graves that it would give a horrible stench. Since some soldiers weren't able to take showers in weeks or even months it would cause them to have bad odor of sweat.
