The Industrial Revolution improved the way we do things every day. One of the biggest improvements that the Industrial Revolution gave us was the way we travel from one place to another. One of the inventions involved in the Industrial Revolution that influenced transportation was the railway system and the first ever locomotive. Before the Industrial Revolution the only way you could travel was if you rode an animal (e.g donkey or horse) or if you walked yourself, but some places had wooden railways and carriages that were carried along by horses. THe only way to transport goods was through river barges, but they were slow and costly. But now, because of the Industrial Revolution, today we can usetransportto go anywhere we wish throuh planes, trains, buses, cars and so much more. Because of the improvement in travel everyone has become reliant on transport and it has become a very important part of everyones life.

Skwirk.(N/D) Transportation.[online]<skwirk.com>[2/3/18]

Industrial Revolution Research.(N/D)Industrial Revolution - Transportation.[online]<industrialrevolutionresearch.com>[2/3/18]

Transport during the Industrial Revolution went from walking everywhere to someone inventing a steam engine. The first working steam engine that moved the first ever steam boat. It was madein 1787 by John Fitch and it was powered by burning coal. The steam boat the engine operated had 12 paddles but the engine was what propelled it at great speeds. They continued improving it and during 1787 and 8830’s it started being used for transporting mail around the world. But in 1807 it started (for the first time) carrying cargo and people from one place to another. Many different people started improving the engine and eventually they started using the heat more efficiently with less fuel to keep their coal supplies at a maximum. The steam boat during the Industrial Revolution still influences the way we make ships today and if it was never invented then we wouldn’t have the engine powered boats we have today or atleast not as good. During the Industrial Revolution it was the key to trade and messaging with other countries, so it played an important part in everyones life starting from the Industrial Revolution.

Poddar,A.(N/D)Transportation Revolution.[online]<firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com>[3/8/18]

The 19th century was hime to many inventions and improvements to transportation. One of the really influencial inventions was the steam powered locomotive. The first locomotive was made in 1804 but it was not prosented well to the public. Although in 1814, George Stephenson created the first successful steam powered locomotive, it was capable of hauling up to 30 tons of coal at around 4 miles per hour whilst going uphill. George Stephenson was also the first person to build a public railway system made for locomotives. It was originally made to move freight and other materials and was later used to carry passengers from one destination to another. It was most popular in the late 19th to early 20th century when it was eventually replaced by modern methods of transport.

Poddar,A.(N/D)Transportation Revolution.[online]<firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com>[3/8/18]

Library.(N/D)Transportation History: Steam Locomotive.[online]
<customqr-codes.net>[3/8/18]

Wilde,R(28/1/18)The Railways in the Industrial Revolution.[online]<thoughtco.com>[8/3/18]

Today roads are one of the things we take for granted. We just count them off as just another thing we use but never bother to care about. But really they are very important and significant in all our lives and everyone relies on them for transport. This all started in 1817. Before 1817 there was very few roads. The roads that did exist would be in such bad condition that they would almost be unusable. They would be covered in mud, rocks and boulders. After rain the roads would store up all the water and flood meaning no one could use them. But by 1817 improvements were being made. Paths were cleared of boulders and mud and replaced with crushed up stone to make new roads. This also stopped them from flooding.

Poddar,A.(N/D)Transportation Revolution.[online]<firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com>[3/8/18]

River trafficking was a huge improvement during the Industrial Revolution along side canals which sped up the way we trransported goods and eventually ourselves. Before the Industrial Revolution rivers were the fastest way to transport goods from place to place. The goods were carried on a flag boat down stream so it was carried by the currents. But it was a lot harder and longer to take goods up stream against the river currents. But during the Industrial Revolution the invented Keelboats. They were built around rigid timber and in the middle there was a sail which was built to take the boat up stream. Another improvement in the water travel was the canals. Canals were manmade waterways that were used to connect cities and towns with each other by water. It was an invention that made inland transportation so much faster and easier.

Poddar,A.(N/D)Transportation Revolution.[online]<firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com>[3/8/18]

Railroads were probably the kost significant inventions for transport during the Industrial Revolution. When they were first built they were only made for short distance transport for goods. These small railroads got people thinking about how they can improve them. Engineers started planning for long distance railroads to transport goods and eventually even passengers. In 1826 business men in America started constructing the 1st railroad, they named it Baltimore and Ohio(B&O). B&O ended up being a huge success and that made other business people start planning out their own railroads. But railroad were expensive to build so people tried to keep the price as low as possible which meant the tracks werent very safe. There were many accidents and delays because of the tracks bumps and unevenness.

Poddar,A.(N/D)Transportation Revolution.[online]<firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com>[3/8/18]

Wilde,R(28/1/18)The Railways in the Industrial Revolution.[online]<thoughtco.com>[8/3/18]

The image is significant in showing us how the roads have moved from being covered in mud to being made by crushed stones all in the time period of the Industrial Revolution.

Poddar,A.(N/D)Transportation Revolution.[online]<firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com>[3/8/18]

Someone interested in researching the improvements of water transport in the Industrial Revolution would find this image helpful in their research and study on the topic. The image is informing us of the production of Keelboats and how much easier it made everyones life for transporting goods upstream against the currents. River Traffic was very significant during the Industrial Revolution, Keelboats were a new invention that influenced many similar inventions nit long after. Keelboats were almost the only way people could transport goods upstream so it was essential that they invented this boat to save time and money on transporting goods upstream.

Poddar,A.(N/D)Transportation Revolution.[online]<firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com>[3/8/18]

This article and image is focused for a reader interested in wanting to know the history behind the invention of the steam boat. Due to the decreased travel time, no reliance on wind and the rise in market capabilities, the steamboat had a significant effect during the Industrial Revolution.

Streehlow,J.(29/9/17)The Effects of Steamboats on the Industrial Revolution.[online]<classroom.synonym.com>[8/3/18]
