But, he finds conflict along the way with the so called "police" of the books who are corrupt and try to beat out a confession. He also has run-ins with his used to be rival gang the Southies. This shows how he has compassion towards others and how they have affected him.Another event that developed Hansons as a character was when Hanson was in the tunnels underneath Gray Lady where Hanson duels with Bayar and his friend Dancer apparently tries to save him and dies in the process. Because of this experience he becomes infuriated and distraught at the loss of his friend and this gives him the strength to defeat Gavan Bayar. He also tries to get help from his teacher but a bad situation happened where the guard was there so he had to take a hostage to survive Her name was Rebecca Morley. He then has no motivation to do anything productive so he follows his friend Dancer to Marisa Pines to try and stay with one of the only friends he has. Now Dancer and Hanson are now outcast's at Marisa Pines when it's announced that they are going to Oden's ford and that they are wizards. He finds out that he is a descendant of the fabled Demon King whose actual name was Alger Waterloo. On his first day of class he did a spell that brought him into a world where he met a mysterious man named Crow that claimed he could help him learn more than he could have imagined. He then went on studying and learning from Crow and then one day he ran into Rebecca Morley again. He wanted to spend time with her so he asked her if she could teach him etiquette. They then became romantically involved and then one day she was kidnapped and there were four dead wizards in the library. But, when he was going through the pass he finds dead bodies of soldiers near a trail stop. he went down the slope and found 6 men hunting a girl and he decided to help this random person. He went and killed them and found the girl who was Rebecca. He saw she was injured and dying so he did the best he could to get back to Marisa Pines as fast as possible. But, he knew she would be dead by the time he got there if he didn't help heal her. So he then healed her but also injuring himself. By the time he got there he passed out but happy that he got there and Rebecca was still alive. He went into a small coma and was sick for over a week. By the time he woke up he found that Rebecca was actually Raisa ana'Marianna Princess Heir. He then felt like he did when his family died. He felt betrayed and hurt at the same time. He has a personal bedroom right next to the Queen and follows her to all her meetings. He still has goals to try and marry her but he needs to be more of a politician first. One of the first things he has to achieve is to become high wizard of the council. To do this he has to win a majority vote out of everyone on the wizard council and debatably he has only one friend on the council. So he has to convince one other member to win the majority of the vote. While trying to do this he tries to resist his urges to the Queen but sometimes he can't help himself. He has also been busy protecting her from assassination attempts and trying to figure out who is murdering wizards in Rag Market because everyone thinks it his him so he needs to find the true killer to clear his name. When the time comes to choose the High Wizard he gets an unexpected vote from Gryphon so he now achieved one of his goals. But during this meeting the current High Wizard Gavan Bayar proposes to destroy rag market but he did this before the meeting ended so Hanson couldn't prevent it.
