To understand people in chinese you could look at their actions, or you when you ask some person in english and they only know very basic you could understand by looking at the situation. Use some simpliflied chinise like wo shi India ren.

I only understand a little bit of chiniese so people talk to me in english. If someone is speaking to me in chiniese then I will need hand signals to undertand or transalate it to english after they are done speaking in chiniese.
I know some chiniese words.
