Coach Hill talked about how he feels great to be back. 

“I feel awesome about being back. I am looking forward to this season.” 

Hill also mentioned how he feels good about this upcoming season.

 “This season should be pretty good. We have some returning lifters that should be very successful.” 

When asked what his main goal for this season is, Hill mentioned how he hopes all lifters get stronger. 

“We have several new lifters and returning lifters, and the main goal is all lifters get stronger through the work they put in.”

This year there are only two seniors who get to push to be their best and enjoy their last year of powerlifting.  Antonio Garza is one of the seniors left. 

Garza said he many different kinds of emotions.

“I feel kind of sad because it’s my last year, but I also feel excited because I love powerlifting and it’s my first year in a new weight class.” 

Garza spoke about how instead of continuing powerlifting, he wants to switch things a little. 

“This is most likely my last year as a powerlifter because I want to start bodybuilding after high school.” 

Garza seemed excited and can’t wait for what this year brings and what goes under Coach Hill. 

Sophomore, Odalys Iñiguez, joined powerlifting this year. She mentioned how she’s excited but nervous. 

“This is my first year doing this sport and it excites me knowing many great things about it, but I’m nervous about the meets and how they’ll turn out. I want to push myself more to be able to get far.” 

Iñiguez talked about her goals for her first year. 

“My goal this season is to get better and stronger. Coach Hill told the team that he may not be able to take everyone due to so many people. This year, I want to get stronger so I can get the chance to go to the meets.”

Powerlifting is a very competitive sport, but as long as you push yourself to be the best, you’ll get far. So if you’re thinking about joining powerlifting, talk to Coach Hill. 

This past Saturday, CHS had their first powerlifting meet in Monahans. They all did a really good job and over all both girls and boy teams placed 5th.
