The transcontinental railroad was a major step in history. Before the railroad was built, it took people six months to travel from the east to the west. But now, it only takes six days. Both the Chinese and Irish immigrants were a huge part in the process. They mainly helped with the explosives in the mountains and overall helped building the railroad. One of the biggest outcomes of the Transcontinental railroad was standard time zones.

During the beginning of the industrial Revolution the government was Laissez Faire. Meaning they were hands off and didn't really know everything that was going on in the businesses around them. Towards the end of the Industrial Revolution the government turned and became more hands on. Making it harder for businesses to expand.

George Pullman was a successful business man. He felt the rail road cars were uncomfortable and dirty. So he decided to clean them up a bit. When he made this decision he also built a little town for his workers. This town was called Pullman, Illinois. Although he seems like a great guy, his workers didn't see him that way. Eventually they grew so much hatred toward him that they started a strike.

A labor union is a group of workers who make an effort at trying to change work conditions. Many factories had very little caution for their workers when it came to safety, health and machinery. The unions would strike for multiple reasons which ended up getting a negative look from the public. Now one of the biggest labor unions are our teachers.

One thing I thought was cool, was that until the invention of the type writer, women didn't work outside of home. The came along "Mother" Mary Harris Jones, who changed history's view on women. She was an inventor and feminist. She wanted to see change, so she took several kids who were in horrible condition due to the factories. Then marched them right in front of President Teddy Roosevelt's house.

Over 200 years later we are still connected to a very important revolution in America's history. The Bessemer process which helped create steel from iron ore and made it a lot more flexible. Now in 2018 we use steel for many things such as railroads, buildings, bridges, stadiums, etc. Henry Bessemer's invention/ process has helped us incredibly. Without it, who knows what we would've used.
