I think the hybrid model does not change the fact that the power balance in the room (either physical or virtual) still impacts how much voices are heard. This has not changed. For some, the virtual meeting may give them more of a means to avoid speaking.

I have seen the benefit of more 1:1 meetings. Short in duration but more frequent. I feel this began during Covid as a means of 'checking in' and this has continued by some leaders as a way to managing and leading in the hybrid work place

People are different. I think now with the hybrid environment people are more likely to speak up and ask for a work environment that works for their personal life. Prior to Covid, it was not as excepted and culturally acceptable to request remove work / non-standard work patterns.

My organisation values inclusivity by allowing employees the choice of being able to work from home. I believe all voices are still heard equally the Comms team routinely release tips and tricks for chairing meetings and online / hybrid meeting etiquette to allow all the same opportunity to speak.

Hybrid working has ensured we have a more structured communication strategy. The need to ensure connectivity within the immediate and entire team has meant we have focussed more on connectivity in our communications which has had a positive impact on the team overall.

Being able to directly share documents and ideas via teams' meetings and team chats, has created more alignment and means that everyone gets a say and gets to express their ideas.

Ensuring we have "whole team" catch ups and outings on 'in office' days also creates more alignment. Allowing team members to run meetings and choose the contents, when workflow allows, has brought more fun and enjoyment to the meetings and in office days.

Covid and work from home meant we needed to structure our meetings to ensure they were on point and addressed all areas of workflow.

The main challenge we had, was getting the team to disconnect from the task they were working on and focus on the meeting, when on teams. Making it a non-negotiable, to have the camera turned on during the meeting, became a must.
