  •  All the music created by these British artists that blew up in America had influences with American artists from the late 40s and 50s
  •  The “Beatles” type bands 
    • Had a bigger emphasis on the singing than the music playing

  • John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and sometimes the other members, from the Beatles wrote the songs that they sang and the songs that became big hits
    • Although they had George Martin to help produce the song, the members also played a big role in that also
      • The Rolling Stones at first were horrible at writing their own songs and producing… they just played what was given to them
        • John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote “I Wanna Be Your Man” for the Stones
  • The Stones were basically trying to be as anti-Beatle like as possible
    • Because so many other people were copying the Beatles, and they didn’t want to be lost in the crowd. They knew they had to be different
  • The Beatles agreed to not travel to America until one of their songs have gone to #1 in the American charts
    • This is because artists who went to America usually failed. They wanted some hope and leverage when going to America, so they wanted to go with a #1 hit
      • On Nov 1963, Paul Epstein (the Beatles manager) scheduled the band to be on the Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964
        • With “I Want to Hold Your Hand” released in December of 1963, they got it to a #1 hit by February
          • So they did end up going to America
    • Beatle performance at Ed Sullivan Show
      • Record breaking 73 million views
      • During appearance, crime rate went down for a while
  • “Oldham had bought the Stones matching outfits when he took over, but the band soon lost or hopelessly soiled parts of these stage clothes-and not entirely by accident.”
    • The Stones did not want to be like the Beatles

  • This music is significant because it led to Americans being obsessed with the british culture.
  • At the start of the 1960s, the music industry in America has turned into a money business. Following the day the music died in 1959, big corporation have taken over and created Bubblegum pop which was not seen as real music. When the Beatles and the Stones came along, they basically brought back to AMerica everything they left behind in the 50s. With the British Invasion was the rebirth of R+R, R+B, blues, jazz, and more.
