Action in the Early Years and Beyond!

E - I am excited that the PYP program includes action as part of the learning experience. As an educator, I believe it is important that we teach children that their actions can improve our world. Our students learning will effect the future of our world.

W - As a Promise K teacher, it can be hard to think about how our youngest learners will demonstrate action and share their learning with our community. One way my students have shown action, is to present calming strategies to our school community at a school assembly. One of our units is on the seasons, and I was thinking about how my students could demonstrate action in this unit. One way I was thinking my students could demonstrate action is to connect our learning to sustainability and protecting our natural resources.

N - I would like to have more examples of how young learners can demonstrate action in our units of inquiry.

S - As I stated above, I am excited to see action as a component of the IB experience. It is also reassuring to know that participation and life style choices are included in this component. Sometimes I think action only includes advocacy, social justice, and social entrepreneurship. Knowing participation and life style choice fall under action, makes it easier for me to think about how my young students will demonstrate action in their IB units.
